Bill, Hillary Clinton in a previous visit with president Fernandez.

Santo Domingo. - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrives in the country today and it’s likely she’ll  discusses with president Leonel Fernandez both countries’ action in the war against corruption and drug trafficking, which by judging what he has stated, it’s his country’s main security threat.

It’s unusual for a United States cabinet level official to visit Dominican Republic, and her stay is scheduled to last than 24 hours, and though Mrs. Clinton often came as the former first lady and senator, it’s the first time she visits with that new post

Thomas Shannon, U.S. undersecretary of State for hemispheric affairs, told newspaper Listin Diario that the new government of president Barack Obama will increase its aid to the country to fight drug trafficking, since there’s concern it can reach dimensions that endanger stability and governance, as has occurred in other countries.

Obama special adviser Jeffrey Davidow, also interviewed by Listin, said it’s likely Obama and Fernandez will talk directly in the Summit of the Americas, to begin tomorrow in Trinidad and Tobago, where Mrs. Clinton is headed once her visit to Santo Domingo concludes.

As part of the war against drug trafficking, the U.S. authorities are prosecuting several defendants and, in Quirino Paulino’s case, have reached agreements via which Dominican justice sends his direct relatives to be given federal protection, although they haven’t advanced because of a delay with Paulino’s wife.

U.S. diplomatic representatives said then they were “studying” the sentence that created the obstacle.

Also pending in that agenda is what will become of several suspects, as yet unidentified, who would be extradited to the United States on charges of conspiracy with drug traffickers, for which several U.S. prosecutors came to the country as part of the investigation a few months ago.

I think the best thing the U.S can do for the Dominican Republic is donate equipment like radar, aircrafts, naval units and train personnel and let us tackle the problems with U.S supersvision, this way with dont run into the problems of corrupt drugs agencies and security personnel.

Madam Sec. Hillary Clinton, don't believe 90% of what you hear and doubt the remaining 10% from LF & company. The drugs and corruption problems in the DR have fingures that run all the way up to the highest levels of this administration. Whatever they ask for, think long and hard before committing. Ask LF to show you the High Speed Boats and Trailers (drug patrols) that we gave him 2+ years ago, look at their use and condition. Radar & Special Equipment provided to the DR will be a waste of money, if not manned/operated by US Staff. Drugs are not a problem in the DR, they are a business! Corruption is a way of life, it is cultural, somewhat similar to what we have in the US, but to a lesser extent.

Juango I agree with you. no matter what you give and no matter what technological advances with get in regard of drugs trafficking is not going to do any good if those high level corrupt officials are expose and remove nothing is going to be done and definitely we need the supervisions of USA or whatever countries who are willing to help DR. otherwise nothing is going to change. a few photos op. and back to the same old routine. God help us all.

I remember that when my older son was a toddler he would pick up my car keys to play with them and this would drive me crazy.
I finally gathered a bunch of old unused keys and made his own set of keys .He left my keys alone.
He would say : Dad look my keys!!!

First thing madman secretary you need to do is clean the staff at the us embassy for incompetent, all of them been in paradise to long and don't understand that you mission here is bigger then pity nonsense about country issue and more about having the strong support of LF for president Obama in the summit of the America. Somebody needs water down Chavez anti American talk and the only president with the gust to stand up to Chavez is LF and not Obama.
