NEW YORK.– The Chamber of Deputies president Thursday said if the denunciations by journalists of the senator Alejandro Williams are confirmed, the ruling PLD party legislator must be dealt with in an exemplary manner, including impeachment.

Julio Cesar Valentin affirmed however that the PLD has yet to receive evidence on the allegations.

He said that if the senator isn’t punished, his tenure as Deputy Leader wouldn’t have legitimacy with the population and would be tantamount to turning his back on the Dominican people, as transparency must be one of democracy’s flags.

"It’s not reasonable to draw attention way from the constitutional reforms by open it (proceedings), but it’s necessary to leave open the possibility, because if either is verified: on Medicaid or the harassment of journalists, since Congress makes daily efforts to gain the trust of citizens, which is an attitude of Senate president Reynaldo Pared Perez and mine; we’re neither going to waver nor defraud the Dominican people on this,” Valentin said.

Senior PLD leader weighs in

Joining the chorus of those who criticize Williams, Insurance superintendent Euclides Gutiérrez said the San Pedro province (east) senator was mistaken in party affiliation and his behavior is a disservice to the PLD and the nation.

Gutiérrez, one of the 25 members of the PLD’s Political Committee, said Williams behaves like a member of the opposition PRD party. "That senator is mistaken as to the party, because his behavior is that of one who belongs to the PRD."

The journalists María Isabel Soldevila, Margarita Cordero, Norma Sheppard, Mayra La Paz and Adalberto Domínguez accused  Williams of intimidating them with his bodyguards.

BS! Williams already admitted he hired the "investigators" to pay a visit to the journalists so what's the hold-up? A shame.

Impeachment articles should be drawn ove the weekend, proper service and commencement should follow. Anything short of that and it just serves to affirm to correctly-held belief that DR is the wild wild west and the government is nothing more than a costume for those in power ($$$) to do as they wish.

If he was Dominican it would have been ok for him to intimidate the journalist sbut since he is Haitian he should resign and return to Haiti.
Well I am beginning to see our intemingled these two countries are for the best and for the worst.
Since when a Haitian could become a Dominican legislator
No he is not haitian , he is a Cocolo !
Of Lord, help me I am so confused.
The more I read these post s the more confused I become.
I thought Haitians were the ones cutting sugar canes and picking up fruits only.

El senador William dijo que "no obtiene ningun beneficio como senador,ya que dona a varias instituciones su salario y que incluso construyo una extension de la Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, que beneficia 500 estudiantes "
Someone please tell me if this is true what the Haitian / Cocolo is saying.
He also said that he was elected democratically by the people of San Pedro De Macoris, there must be a lot of Haitians and Cocolos who voted for him since he is himself a Haitian / Cocolo.
Oh etiennc01 stop being stupid !!!!

I actually heard him speak for the first time today on TV, and I'm sorry to break it to you guys, but he's 100% Haitian (regardless of what his "papers" say). I think it would hurt patriots & nationalists too much to admit it so we all just prefer to think he's a cocolo. I'm all for increased color in DR's echelons of power, but having someone that barely speaks the national language as senator is a serious embarrassment. Plus nobody knows where all the money he used to get elected in SPM came from, since apparently he was barely even known in the area until election time came.

Williams is an educated dentist, he was democratically elected senator by the people of San Pedro de Macoris,he barely speaks Spanish and he is 100% Haitian or a Cocolo.
This proves how intermingled the inevitable fates of the countries Haiti and The Dominican are.
He is an ambarassment because he allegedly got involved in a Medicaid fraud and he should be deported back to Haiti
Otherwise he would have been a national hero like Johnny Ventura for having used his own money to build a wing at a school to accommodate 500 students.

Just because he has a dental office in NY does not make him educated.

Training is the first ingredient in education.
This man has been " trained " to extract teetn, to fill cavities.to repair teeth,to deal with root canal to save a tooth when your gum is iefected and can not feed or support the tooth.
finally to help with oral hygiene.
Human inteeligence is the second part of education
The main is intelligent enough to retain all he has learned and put them into practice.
An educated persons supports and favors education
He has used his salary to build a wing in a Dominican School to accomadate 500 students.
Now your turn xwiil
If you are nor confortable with word education which word would you rather use ?

etien,
have you ever gone to his dental office??? How do you know that he is any good? Do you know if he graduated in the low end of his graduating class? My fiancee is a dentist and I respect that field, it is not easy work. But just because you are a dentist does not make you educated. Also, he used his salary to build a school in order to fool the people to look the other way.

Also, if he was educated he would have been smart enough to not be in a jam like this.

Cocolo: is a slang term common in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean used sometimes to refer to non Hispanic blacks. It is also a term used to refer to people from Anglophone and Francophone West Indies in Spanish-speaking countries and especially, the Cocolos of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic.

I have enjoyed this " discussion "and I have not been able to convince you that the man is educated and you have not been able to convince me otherwise.
Let.s hope that this intellectual exercise will turn into a "debate "and the other posters will either agree with you or with me.
God bless you and your family

Etiennc01,
It is almost funny that when this news first came up, I made a comment of him looking Haitian and corrupted, you and the other Haitians on this forum started to call me names, so you knew of his background and just tried to intimidate and silence me?! So I would not give out any ideas to the rest?!! Now you admitted he is Haitian and a crook taking the Dominican money and service he should be rendering.

A dentist does not have the civic background to run to represent the people.

The invasion is coming from all angles.
He should be fired, forced to pay all his salary back, and that money should be used for the border wall.
Also there is more that needs to be investigated on him and his associates.

poponlaburra,
i happen to be the son of a Dominican mother and a Haitian father.
My wife is Dominican and resides in Puerto Plata.
Now you see why I am trying to calm your fear and help you to understand that future of these two countries are forever interwooden.
They are people like Hillary Clinton,Leonel Fernandez who underdand the reality I just mentioned ,they are called leaders.
Now we need leaders to help us navigate through the intolerance and menaces of the extremists on both sides of the Haitian / Dominican border.

poponlaburra,
A Haitian who manages to get educated in a Dominican School to become a dentist with a practice in the US.
He later managed to get elected senator " justifies your deepest fear"
The invasion is coming from all angles "
But you have chosen to flee the Dominican Republic ionstead of fightin off the Haitian invaders
I understand your anger.I pray God to give you the wisdom to accept things that you can not change and accept miracles.
Fortunately enough Williams is allegedly involved in a welfare fraud. This is enough to calm your fear and give you peace of mind.
You would wish that every "Williams" be destroyed
He is guilty until found innocent !!!

Etiennc01, "these two countries are forever interwooden"?

DR and Haiti are not the only two countries in the the Earth. We are one world, and all countries should be interwooded with each respecting the boundaries of the other. It does not mean one has to loose its identity in oder to accomodate the needs of the other. It is not DR resoponsability.

Two aquaintance of mine once told me he did not want to pay for illegal residents in US. Was I supposed to become deffensive and dislike them? their were in their rights to say what they said.

DR and Haiti share the same Island, we are separated by language and a little of culture. We are both Islanders on the same piece of Land. Though Haitian, I enjoyed meeting Dominicans when I was in N.Y. Here in California, there are a number of Dominicans who frequent the club that I go to. We always refer to each other as the same People.

I hear you loud and clear. We do not need extremist with their poison to affect our mind and keep us divided. Futhermore if we demostrate to the world that while sharing the same Island we are unable to effectively communicate, why should they invest in our future ? I appreciate your understanding.

Ethiennc,
Williams did not earn his spot in the senate. The only way that you could get away with this for so long is to have friends that are connected. He took advantage of the system and he should pay the people back
