Santo Domingo.- The remains of the former "San Isidro strong man" Elías Wessin y Wessin were buried yesterday afternoon amid the grief of his relatives and military honors in the private cemetery Puerta del Cielo.
Present in the burial were Armed Forces minister Rafael Peña; the chiefs of the Air Force Carlos Rafael Altuna, and the Army Joaquin V. Perez.
The son of the ex military and president of the pro-government PQD party Elías Wessin Chávez, said the descriptions of his father have been a “historic fallacy," in reference to his role against democracy when he confronted the constitutionalists in the 1965 Revolution, which south to reinstate the deposed Juan Bosch to office.
Wessin is known for the “massacre at Duarte bridge,” where hundreds of Dominicans died after he ordered the Air Force to fire on the civilians who supported the Revolution.

One more place for me to relieve myself when I return to DR.
"General", usted traiciono la patria y haci sera como la historia te recordara, como un traidor. Sus hijos le deben dar verguenza al tener que andar por la vida con el nombre "Wessin".

"The man is the reason you can spew your ignorance on this and other outlets."
This "man" is not worthy to be called a man. The proof is in the pudding. The Dominican people didn't show up for this villain's funeral, only relatives and professional contemporaries. Se sabe que fue un Don Gran Nadie que murio, un enemigo del pueblo.

So some people still believe that communists that came to the D.R. after many years and tried to force a communist regime on us are actually "heroes" of dominican democracy, but men who fought to keep the D.R. free of those traitors are the bad guys.

Who are these communists and what regime were they trying to force "on us"? The revolution of '65 was NOT a communist revolt, even the US State Department officials that were on the ground knew as much. The revolt of '65 was an attempt to restore the legitimately elected President of the Dominican people (elected by a very large margin, I may add, in an election that was closely monitored by the international community) who had been ousted in a coup. You know nothing of your history otherwise you would not be posting under the name that you are, "Trujillo",

I clearly remember him being really tight with Balaguer back in the 1980s. Wasn't he Secretario de Estado de las Fuerzas Armadas sometime in the 1980s...?

I will shed no tears for this man who traumatized me as a young child with his daily raids and inept attempts at bringing down Puente Duarte, while I lived in Ensanche Ozama. I still have bad memories of dead bodies piled up high and bombs going off all the time. We also had to pay heavy monetary tolls to his soldiers in order to get free passage and escape the city toward San Isidro with our nine-month pregnant aunt.
In my opinion, Mr. Wessin was an evil man. Period. He got precisely the kind of anonymous funeral he deserved, and I am surprised his family didn't have to stand at a busy corner handing out $50 bills to get people to attend his service.

Blame the death of the Dominican at the "Duarte" bridge to PENA GOMEZ who ordered them to come out to the streets and fight the military. PENA knew the civilian did not have skills to attack or defend themselves (they were not properly armed for the occasion) but PENA gained political prestige with their deaths!
Wessin took the correct action to delay the take over of power by the ignoramus and that allowed the U.S. to finish the job up! Now ask any Dominican if they want to be govern by the same communist system that rules in Cuba! You will find a few only!
I THANK Mr. WESSIN AND WESSIN FOR SAVING MY COUNTRY FROM THE IDIOTIC PRINCIPLES AND IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGES THE STUPID COMMUNISM SYSTEM WAS GOING TO IMPLANT IN DR! THANK YOU! I'LL SEE YOU LATER (my clock rate is faster than the dead ones!).

If he was so great why weren't you inspired enough to attend his funeral? Unbelievable. People still believe that 65 was a communist revolt. The propaganda from the right has won the minds of a few ignorant indivuduals. But whatever. The truth is the truth no matter what.
