Santo Domingo.- Two priests officiated a mass in front of the Congress today, as part of the Catholic Church’s pressure on lawmakers to penalize abortion and to support the president Leonel Fernandez’s proposal on the issue, in the constitutional reform bill.

During the mass, Santa Ana and Villa Duarte parish priests Jose Maria Guerrero, and Alejandro Cabrera reiterated the Catholics’ demand of respect to establish in the Constitution that human life begins from the moment of conception till death, as stated in article 30 of the bill Fernandez submitted.

Hundreds of Catholics from various National District and Santo Domingo province parishes took part in the mass, held in a small boulevard in front of the Congress and City Council buildings, in the National District’s La Feria sector.

After the mass, which began at 7 a.m., other friars, priests and deacons from several parishes joined the group, which remained in the area to conduct a vigil.

This is a "show of Force" since some politicians have questioned the church's interferance in matters of politics.... and they're showing how influencial they are... which shows how ignorant we are to have in our times a "Catholic country"

Down with the church....

This is indeed very very sad and is way out of touch with reality ...when I see all the teenagers with their undernourished children in la Romana, higuey and along the rode to el Seibo, i almost weep at the horrid life awaiting the children ..one piece of good news is that Jumbo has placed many brands of condoms at the check outs which may assist those who can afford them ...i do not understand how the catholic church when opposing condom use and justifiable abortion , and so being a party to death , disease and suffering can command any respect from their congregations or the general population..it is a tragedy

Very good Agibus ! Obviously Im succeeding in my Apostolistic mission if I have you reading your bible and quoting scriptures at me .( even if your not making sense.) But it is a start ....You are not far from the kingdom of God brother Agibus ....As far as cotton on my baby @#^ , All I can remember is the feel of my fathers leather belt mercilessly beating my @#^ in my sheltered from reality childhood .. Courage ? Shall I start with the letter A and maybe we will finish by Monday ? Finally , while you have your bible open , turn to the gospel of John and read the entire book asking God ( not the church or the Vatican ) to show you who He is and what he wants from you .. If you do this , you will live ..

I can voice my opinion and vote my will and none of you close minded individuals can stop me!

State and Church are separate. The church is always sticking its nose where it does not belong.

The Church is not a building it is a collective of DOMINICAN citizens that have a right to our opinion and those of you that don't like it "se pueden ir a freir tusas".

All you do is insult the church and by extension all of it's members but you have no arguments other than repeating leftist mantras without understanding what you say .

We have been around and we are not going anywhere so if this causes you grief you are in for a long time of suffering and pain because we will not stay stuck in our pews !
