Santo Domingo.- Customs intelligence officials, in coordination with United States Border Protection and Customs inspectors yesterday detected a contraband of US$345,856 (RD$12,250,816) coming from Puerto Rico.

The cash arrived in the country from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in a 1984 Ford truck, aboard the ferry Caribbean Express.

Although the vehicle with the money distributed in 13 black plastic packages originally arrived at the Sans Soucí port, the inspectors decided to reroute it to the Caucedo Multimodal Port after noting the driver’s suspicious behavior.

Nice catch what do you do for an encore? Go spend it at the colmado? This money was probably some stupid idiot who just didn't want to pay taxes, which is the national sport in the DR. But who would want to pay taxes when all you see is the government waste and squander your money and not give anything back for it but power outages.

He wasn't importing a vehicle. He was coming over on the PR-DR ferry. All vehicles leave the same we they came in.

Please tell me you are being facetious. Judging from all associated blunders, the perpetrator is likely uneducated and without the means to legitimately earn that kind of money. This money comes from illicit gains; most likely derived from sale of narcotics. Period.
