A technician tests the cameral

Zoom Picture

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.- Faced with the world-wide alert for the swine flu virus, Punta Cana International Airport placed Thermal Camera equipment into operation, aimed at detecting fever in arriving passengers.

The authorities of the country’s busiest airport said any visitor detected with any fever will be transferred to a special area for an examination by the Health authorities, who’ll determine the steps to follow.

The Punta Cana Airport acquired the equipment four years ago, as part of its program to prevent diseases and disasters.

It's fascinating how One minute nobody has even heard of a disease or an event; The moment the U.S. government mentions it; The next thing it becomes all encompassing, everyone has to jump on the bandwagon; Where were all these medical know-it-alls just three days ago?
Napolitano calls a national medical emergency and all the sudden Pango Pango (American Samoa) is worried about the torurists bringing Pig flu onto the Atoll.

Que que fuerza de cara!

Pigs can harbor influenza viruses adapted to humans and others that are adapted to birds, allowing the viruses to exchange genes and create a pandemic strain

Punta Cana seems to be a very proactive and well-run entity. Perhaps our govt should look up to it for a model to emulate.

Employing thermal imaging equipment for unintrusively screening arriving passengers is not only reassuring but also world-class. Even USA cannot afford to have such gadgetry at all airports, so let's chuck this up as a bold move from highly focused private sector businessmen. It's no wonder they are so successful.

Hopefully, this level of of care and proactiveness will translate into additional business at a time when it's much needed.

From what I have read, you would be more ill from dengue fever than from this flu.
Both require an antibiotic treatment but with the dengue, you will have more serious symptoms.

Funny thing is that we human beings are so simple-minded. The crime that exists in most urban areas, the diseases that fester in the water supplies of some areas are far worse than this swine flu.
Yet, it is like the boogie man. Oh, I'm so afraid.
Let's focus on real problems that affect many more people

Its easy to detect ..You just look for the guy thats grinding his teeth , struggling with a bad case of post nasal drip , drinking a super sized slurpee without a straw and flapping his arms like a bird ....I hope your tsunami detector is just as effective..
