SANTO DOMINGO. - Dominican Republic is still free of swine flu as the tests conducted on a young woman who arrived from Mexico came back negative, in the clinic she was hospitalized when the authorities suspected she had the disease.

Despite the absence of fever symptoms, Irma Jiménez, 23, was subjected to rigorous tests by the lab of the Dominican-Japanese medical center Cemadoja.

Public Health minister Bautista Rojas Wednesday morning presented the results of the analyses on Jiménez, who arrived from Mexico on Monday.

The official affirmed that a case of swine flu symptoms have yet to be detected in the country and reiterated that the authorities are following up on the people arriving from the countries already affected.

He said several tests were conducted on Jimenez, including the direct immune-fluorescence, but all came back negative.

Get real ! Do you really think the average Dominican that travels with thier family of 5 on the back of a Suzuki motoconcho when its pitch dark out is loosing any sleep or missing any beach time over a Pig that ate a bad piece of chicken let alone even knowing about it ? Thats what I love about the D.R SO MUCH.... (They are so not American )..I laugh when i think about last summer when hurricane Dean , a cat 5 was 200 miles away from our north coast town and there wasnt one bottle of water or one pack of saltin crackers missing from the store shelves in preparation of a possible direct hit....These people could care less ...In Florida one year earlier , i was unable to fill my gas tank for 2 days when the weather channel warned of a tropical storm ....Porfavor..lol lol lol ..

DR is worried about crisis if turist sector has fever.Mexican woman in quarantine is a schock show to safe the gringos. The same gringos are the agents of the virus. So Punta Cana fever detector will work to protect turists but no natives.DR wash your hands before smiling to virus agents.......
