Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s most feared underworld figure was shot dead Saturday night amid an as yet unclear incident inside Najayo prison, where he was serving time for a drug a trafficking conviction.
Rolando Florián Feliz was shot seven times by a the jail guard Lino Oscar Jiménez, said Prisons director Manuel de Jesus Perez Sanchez, whose official report states that about 9 a.m., three hours after the conjugal visits are allowed, captain Jiménez "reiterated to Florián that he had to conclude the visit by Danerys Mejía de los Santos and Yury Lora, who were with the inmate since 4 p.m."
Captain Jimenez’s insistence may have been the reason the inmate cut the face of the guard, who at that moment wasn’t armed.
"The inmate pursued the captain outside his area of enclosure, moments in which the officer went to look for a weapon with which he caused the wounds that caused his death," said Perez Sanchez in a press conference in which he didn’t respond to reporters’ questions.
Florián, 43, was a university student when he was arrested in 1994 and sentenced to 20 years in prison for trafficking 953 kilos of cocaine, serving time in high security cells in other penitentiaries, from where he was transferred to a common cell in Najayo since 2005.
Ordered crimes from within prison
Throughout his 14 years in prison the name Florián was linked to several drug and murder cases, among them the kidnapping and death of Victor Augusto Feliz Matos, for which was convicted to an additional six years in prison.
He was also convicted to five years for attempted escapes and tried to get paroled several times, the latest in January, but his request was denied.

An obvious HIT. He had a few enemies who would have paid good money for this job. I wonder if Vegas has posted odds on how long Ramoncito, Renta & Marcos have? If I were them, or any other high figure person, I would worry about my safety while in jail. That includes the Elliots (Sun Village fraud) if they are in fact, in jail. Todo es posible en el pais de las maravillas. Only in the DR. Gotta love it !

The guy was a regular SOB, but had a legal right to live. That looks like an assasination, maybe in the wake of the Bani case, Maconi to be extradited, and so on.
He probably had something big on everyone in power since the 90's and was ready to cash in.
Got in paid in plomo.

BS! Right to live? No way. The DR should get serious about the death penalty - like China - where there are way more poor people and almost no crime!

This may be a good precedent and this guard should be given a medal. Guys, how many taxpayer dollars did this guard just save the RD Gov? If the RD Gov would deal with career criminals in this manner then corruption would drop like a rock! And there would what? More money for EDUCATION & SECURITY.
As stated earlier, justice has been served (so, lets move on...)

Hey I hope this is the beginning of a new trend in DR prisons, I'm pro life but an eye for an eye should be a rule in life. This trend will relieve the overcrowding in the prisons, and put a little more fear into these aholes in waiting, out on the streets.
