Buried: Rolando Florian Feliz. Photo elnuevodiario.com.do

BARAHONA.- They buried him as nothing less than a "saint" who’ll be resurrected like Christ’s second coming, amid the eulogy and the throng’s chant: "Crime!, crime!"

The story ended at 6:20 p.m. yesterday when his coffin was lowered to a humble grave in the municipal cemetery where now dwells who was once Dominican Republic’s most feared hood: Rolando Florián Feliz.

Mothers, brothers, children (15), concubines, cousins, neighbors and onlookers cried out for justice and asked for the death of captain Lino Oscar Jiménez, who shot the convict dead during a scuffle Saturday night at Najayo prison.

"He died valiantly. His great sin was to fight for his dignity," said the pastor Ronny Florián, Rolando’s nephew.

In his eulogy, the preacher described his uncle’s death as “vile, cruel and probably planned fact."

Many in Dominican society value money & power above character and morals (or anything else) ! These people only respect fear and intimidation otherwise the have little respect for you. This attitude permeates all levels of society. Weak and shallow people will always be used by those who know how to use the sysetm to their advantage. We in the USA, are not far behind the DR in this matter.

SWEET JESUS... The man lived a sinner and died a saint...

It's a 14th century classic... Look at Boccacios' DECAMERON... You'll find his story there!

It is what is ..is: A circus!

We all know that fans only come to the circus to see "the clown".

They will be disappointed he does not get a official state burial or the national flags flown at half mask.

This is the best deterrent to crime (many looked up to this man). They will at least now consider his fate (even this alone may not prevent his nephews & friends from wanting to become career criminals).

Everyone has always known of priviledges in the RD prisons. This is nothing new. Remember last year when a guy serving time was in the Colonial Zone with a guard and a pretty chica drinking a cold Presidente?

The US Gov must force the RD Gov to "get it together!"

I tell you those poeple that think of this man as a saint, need to be set on fire. This man got exactly what he derserved. Now justice was really served. He took many lives, so it was more than fitting that his life eventually would be snubbed too.

I hope they give the guard a nice desk job in a secure building a bit of protection at home, because this poor guy is going to be on a list of not very nice things to happen.

JUSTICE SERVED IS JUSTICE DONE AND THAT DEAD SCUMBAG WAS TRIED BY A HIGHER COURT.

I am Sargent Shultz on that one ciby I know nothing But your repeated use of ethnic slurs and now preceded by adjectives like slimey makes me think you are not playing by the same rules as you would want others to play or is that just a self serving position when you criticize others .Always remember modifiers like slimey or greasy or dirty can be affixed to other ethnic slurs as well and for the sake of PC we would prefer other terms as in Rag head or Camel Jockey or dune monkey is now Desert People....Kapish

WOW, 15 children......... If this guy does have 15 children, I think he may have some newborn while he was serving in the jail....... If this is true-----> conclusion for this:

TO: DRUG DEALERS,

Do more drugs because there is no difference "in the jail" and "living outside", the only thing you need is """""">>>>>>>MONEY <<<<<<<<<""""""", that is a so shameful.

Balaguel, got a heroes funeral, so did Gen. Elias Wessin Y Wessin .......... These two men where criminals that have killed more people then Mr. Rolando Florián Feliz.
And in the U.S. this happens as well.
