Santo Domingo. - The murder of the drug trafficker Rolando Florián Feliz again shines the spotlight on a system of privileges some “special” inmates enjoy, which began with the “late night soirées” to clubs and other places by the former inmate Franklin Franco, during his stay in different penitentiaries.

When Prisons director Manuel de Jesus Perez Sanchez revealed that when Florián was shot he called his relatives on a cell phone from his cell, the official inadvertently confirmed that the controversial  inmate had one in his possession, even when they are banned in the country’s prisons.

“The inmate tried to attack the guard who tried to subdue him by hitting him twice with a billy-club, after that the guard shot him (Florian) several times in his body, he went back to his cell and called his family,” Perez said to the press on Sunday.

Another privilege the now deceased convict enjoyed was the visit of relatives and friends beyond the hours stipulated by the authorities.

Despite that Najayo’s visiting hours are until 6 p.m., the two women, Yuri Lora and Daneris Mejía, who were reportedly in a joint conjugal visit with Florián the night of the killing, were found in his cell after 9 p.m.

In addition to the cell phone and extended visits in the penitentiary, the late drug trafficker allegedly also had a TV and a radio.

The Justice Ministry’s Commission designated to probe the drug trafficker’s death made its first visit to Najayo, where it questioned inmates and the prison guards.

These priviledges are nothing compared to what Ramoncito and his fellow Baninter inmates are receiving at present time. Money talks in el pais de las maravillas. This is not news.... tell us something we don't already know.

This review is a waste of the JMC's time there are more important injustices in the RD. Not only cell phones, radios & TV's but it goes to PLAY STATIONS, Gameboys etc. The conjugal visits are the norm for guys with money & influence (but maybe not this late).

This criminal was a fool! he looked a gift horse in the mouth and still complained & rebelled! He had everything on the inside that he could get locked up at home on the outside. He was in bed with not one but two women? So, now what the hell was he mad about? A Fool!

It is what is ..is: A circus! With many clowns.

Everyone has always known of priviledges in the RD prisons. This is nothing new. Remember last year when a guy serving time was in the Colonial Zone with a guard and a pretty chica drinking a cold Presidente?

The US Gov must force the RD Gov to "get it together!" HILLARY CLINTON HELP US IN THE RD BECAUSE OUR RD GOV IS LOST & CORRUPT!

Amazing....I'll say it over and over: it's becoming embarassing to say you're Dominican when all people see and read about are these things.....the leaders have long been morally corrupt, but now the population is becoming morally corrupt and that's a danger/threat for our future well-being.

The most amusing thing about all this is that people in general feel this is something new. In every country money talks. In every Institution u can acquire what you want if the money is right. EUROPE, ITALY, SPAIN, RUSSIA, USA...where ever the fact remains where there is need someone will supply. With the economy being what it is an opportunity for anything is within reach. Security guards working night shift for Dominican hotels can earn more than a nice night out on the town when the hotel is full of sleazy sex tourists trying to bring thier honeys in without any identification..This prepares them for future emloyment with the police force and penal system.

Man the prison system here is a Joke. Order McDs,Pizza hut. Pizzarelli etc. Special delivery food of choice. Females visit your cell in the mornings asking if you would like sex for 300$ pesos. 10$ Chicks are cheaper inside than outside. They bring the liqiour and the drugs inside. Was a complete circus. I was locked up innocently and sent to VICTORIA. Here I am American inmate being sent to prison for doing nothing. NIGHTMARE. I had cell phone. NO problem. I had everything except my freedom. If spoke spanish sure that would have been arranged too. Then the gaurds tells me if want satellite TV cable installed I could providing I pay installation fees and bills along with his 1000 RD a month fee. Plus the 10$ a week fee for my cell phone. Dangerous Yes. Organized NO. Every inmate walked around with Machettes in hand. Was normal. Crazy. Crazy. No safe zones. This Country needs help with its infrastructure. Hillary Clinton gone need more help than she can ever imagine.

When I had my last business in the D.R , one of the girls that worked for me was picked up for walking unescorted on a public street at 8.30 p.m one evening and her cousins came looking for me to help bail her out . After 2 hours of sitting in the front office of the little station watching the policia threaten all the young women with cruel beatings , I ended up getting the girl out for 1000 pesos . I also paid 100 pesos to the police guard to let me bring food in to her and visit her as I waited ..What a foul site . A HOT LITTLE CELL THE SIZE OF YOUR BROOM CLOSET with 10 chicas stuck together in a corner full of piss .The men were in the cell next door fighting over rights to take a squat . These are just the local cans in the D.R and they make the jails in the U.S seem like country clubs..Can you believe the next evening the tourist police offered me a police escort to the disco tech .My buddies.lol
