SANTO DOMINGO. - Public Health minister Bautista Rojas Monday said he doesn’t need to lie to the country regarding the existence of the A1H1 virus, and he’ll disclose it to the public when the first case appears.

He said the authorities have proceeded in adherence to international sanitary protocol.

Chile, Peru and Russia have reported several cases in their nationals who after returning to their countries tested positive to the virus after vacationing in Punta Cana,. “We don’t have any, absolutely any reason to lie to the Dominican people.”

The official, speaking on the Z101 radio program, stressed that the authorities haven’t confirmed any cases in the country, and gave no credibility to an international press report that a Russian citizen who was on honeymoon in the east region contracted the virus.

WTF! This should be criminal. DR's Public Health Director making such statements. They (officials) know that there are cases of H1N1 in the DR.

I suppose that as tourists are not tested as they leave the DR , and as most tourists would prefer treatment in their home country ,the minister can say that no one has tested positive in the DR ..So maybe the minister will never have absolute proof and wil always be able to say the tourists caught the virus on the plane going home

Why are all the posts on this site so negative?

Complain
Compare
Criticize

Of course, the expectation is to speak your minds, but to sound like spoiled no-it-alls with more research, references and respectability than the journalist themselves is a bit pompous. Geez, why both reading Dominican Today, let me just head right to the bottom to read the arrogant editorials written by DT’s superior readers who obviously stop by to drop small nuggets of the “real” story. Even if a post begins positive, stop, take a breath and get ready...yep, there is it...a more indepth negative comment. Los Que Sea!

I will simply stop reading.

The answer to your complaint is that many writers are hostile towards the President and the Government , maybe because they support the other party or maybe because the undeniable corruption has made them doubt even good government initiatives or maybe because some of the press releases that emanate from Government are so unbelievable. I ,myself as a resident for more than 11 months of the year am not politically involved but at times I am dismayed at what I read and hear of here in relation to corruption and lying .
Also at times the excerpts of news printed here on this site differ in emphasis to the same story on other sites ,and they are headlined so as to provoke negative comment
I try to be very positive and normally think the President is doing a good job but in this case of the swine flu , I prefer to believe the authorities in the other countries.

I just came back from Santiago, when I arrived at the airport, they screened every passenger with the flu camera and there was a "doctor" with a white robe handing out a letter that said what to do if you feel sick. They forgot to add to the letter that mamajuana is the cure

RD under-reports EVERYTHING so that it doesn't affect tourism. Dengue is HIGHLY under-reported.
You think that they're going to report H1N1? Your'e dreaming!

xwill, did the thermal camera have charged batteries? It probably was not even operational or the operator was not properly trained to read the thermal image he was observing. What a JOKE ! The man in the white coat was probably a member of the Plane Cleaning Crew (those that clean the aircraft after landing).

lol... there was no way to know if the camera was on. The "doctor" had some nerdy glasses and a medical ID hanging. But who knows if they are for real
