SANTO DOMINGO. – The renown epidemiologist Dr Jesus Feris Iglesias said Monday that in Bavaro, La Altagracia province (east) an outbreak suspected of being the AH1N1 virus was detected, which not only affected tourists, but also employees of the hotels.

"Right now in Bavaro, there’s apparently a group of people, workers among them, who work in that tourist center, native of Dominican Republic, who are apparently affected," the physician said in an interview in the Z-101 radio program.

He said something is suspicious when a group of people who have the same characteristic symptoms, are suspected of having the disease until proven otherwise.

He said until now several nationals from Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Russia and one from the United States have tested positive for the virus after vacationing in Punta Cana.

The medical epidemiologist today accused Health minister Bautista Rojas of providing deceptive information on the virus, announcing negative tests from the analysis.

Shut down the border! Shut the border down! We do not want to get infected, we have already been the victims of the Aids virus, do we want another virus on our back? They will surely try to have us as scapegoats once more. Shut the damn' border down.

Don't believe 90% of what these clowns say (all government officials) and doubt the remaining 10%. They will deny anything that may negatively impact tourism in any form, even if the hospitals & clinic beds are all taken with H1N1 patients. Can you imagine Pt Cana/Bavaro with 10-20% of its normal headcount of visitors. It would be an economic disaster for most. DR's party line, deny! deny! deny! and never admit the truth, even if it may kill you.

Several weeks ago I wrote here saying that it was highly unlikely that the Dominican Government would declare any cases that could result in a slow down of tourists to the DR. It must be expected that some cases will occur in tourist areas such as Punta Cana and I see that a number of children returning to Australia on a cruise ship from the USA have tested positive ..the important thing is to report the cases as soon as possible so thers can take measures to prevent becoming infected .
The Dominican government seems to prefer to endanger people´s health rather than lose a tourit dollar

It is just the Flu.

In the US 30,000 people will die from the flu this year. So far 12 people have died from the H1N1.....which is a type fo flu.

For some people ignorance is a vocation.

Just business as usual! The Dominican government has highly under-reported dengue for years.
Leonel is just another corrupt and evil US puppet.
