Jimani crossing, second largest trade center after Dajabon.
Santo Domingo.- The excessive and illegal fee on freight crossing from Haiti into the Dominican Republic unleashed the standoff between the truck drivers’ unions from those nations whose annual trade is around US$1 billon, said Dominican-Haitian Chamber of Commerce president Rosa Maria Garcia on Tuesday.
After affirming that the border zone holds many “transparent and dark” interests, the business leader said interests of individuals of truckers’ groups shouldn’t decide whether to close border trade or not.
Garcia said there are interests in Dominican Republic as well as in Haiti which bring about difficulties in the bilateral relations, and in that manner dictate policies stemming from other countries and international communities. “There are countries and international communities whose interest is to solve the problem with Dominican Republic’s leadership, but there are others with their own agenda who lean on individuals from the extreme right, to bring about this type of situation, on the Dominican side as well as on the Haitian side.”
She said annually there is 650 million dollars in informal trade, and around US$1 billon in formal commerce.

Another corruption issue that has been going on for decades. Both countries need to address this but I am sure some people on both sides are making lots of money amidst the chaos and are able to make payoffs to the right people so that business "sigue" as usual.

All that this situation is doing is first cutting a couple of hours of payroll from the truck drivers and increasing the price of the product when it finally arrives. Which only benefits Both business who own the trucks and buy the products. Nothing is coming out of this one and nothing will come out of it any time soon

If you don't get it here it is so you can. Let's say that something with a value of $400RD is sold by a retailer here for $800. Now instead of him paying 400 he is charged this fee by the truckers. Let's say its 100RD. Now it costs him $500RD and he charges us $1000. Got it?

I do really think that your brain is located inside your butt hole. Wake up zombie, you are spoiling your brothers by your foolishness and childish behaviour. If you are daydreaming of grandeur, you are due for a real rude awakening pal, for this recession is here to stay and I don't see how your country will keep paying for all the projects it has indepted itself for. Have you ever heard about deflation and depression? I don't think you ever did, because if you had, you would be much more less sure of yourself and less arrogant toward the Haitians that are feeding you and making you wealthier. Don't you worry, you'll wake up, I only hope that it won't be too late.

From: United States, New York
This is bullshit and Ms. Rosa Maria Garcia knows it. Dozens of Dominican truck drivers attested to their trucks being stoned when entering Haiti, and provided names and reasons (an anti-Preval Haitian senator) behind the attacks. They seem to have gotten scared because of the backlash received, apparently not expecting the Dominican people and government to support fellow Dominican truckers. The pro-haitians are now making up stories to try to excuse their idiotic behavior.

Something that Dominicans are doing to keep Haiti the way it is now. Haitian need to understand that by posting hate comments on here nothing will be solve in Haiti. A quick solution would be that if they have a friend who is a doctor talking to him and bring him back and do the same for all others. Professional Dominican do go back and once they find jobs they stay and now is to the point where some are not leaving and studying inside the country schools.
