NEW YORK. - Political, community leaders, activists, hopefuls to elective posts, industrialists and the parents of the student Angel Moreno, brutally beaten by a U.S. Army soldier in Oswego (Syracuse), yesterday took to the steps of the Bronx Supreme Court to demand justice.
The assemblyman Adriano Espaillat and the councilman Miguel Martinez were invited but didn’t show up, alleging previous commitments.
Several community leaders spoke in the protest, which began shortly after 5 p.m. and organized to seek justice for Moreno.

Let the US Governemet hire a few of the unemployedin the protesting group, now that this administration wants to make the US goverment the single largest employer on the face of the globe. Go'bama,go. We adore you ! btw, who is Angel Moreno?

It’s NOT about becoming a millionaire when a prejudice has been perpetrated…

Was he beaten because he was simply a Dominican? If he was assaulted for no reason then this soldier should face the full force of the law. Often times I cringe when politicians or "community groups" cry racism. The squeaky wheel gets the grease I guess. When are folks going to realize that we live in a multicultural, multirace society? People of all different backgrounds interact on a daily basis and not every interaction is going to be a positive one. Just because this kid was Dominican and his attacker wasn't, doesn't mean there was any "racism" or "bias" in this assault. Perhaps the "victim" was no angel. Let cooler heads prevail and more facts come to light.

I find it pretty strange and hypocrit how people are howling about the beating of a citizen by a brutal serviceman. Should the Haitians that are being killed and beheaded in the Dominican Republic be mourned the same way? Shouldn't justice be called upon a state that sponsored such crimes against mankind? I feel very sorry for that student and I really do, for we humans should spend our time helping each other surviving on this planet and not murdering each other instead. However, I do hope that events like that will touch people so deep inside, that they will make them reach out and feel the pain of others and not only theirs.
The military man who perpetrated that violent act must be punishe accordangly and the victim should be compensated. Would it be nice to also hear from its parents'voice that the haitians that are being murdered in their country should also obtained justice and be duely compensated? I guess, they won't see it that way.

It didn't appear to have anything to do with race. Check what the local paper reports. It was a fight Angel Moreno could have been just about as much at fault and was just unlucky.

Police say Pvt. Kevin T. Flanagan, 23, of Manchester, N.H., a soldier at Fort Drum, hit Moreno during an altercation that started inside the Pizza Pub Restaurant, 141 W. Bridge St. The fight that police say involved about 12 people, began when two groups started arguing about then President-elect Barack Obama. It spilled out onto the street and Moreno was punched. He fell, hitting his head on a car, then on the sidewalk.

Cops didn't do anything to this kid. He was involved in an "altercation" over politics involving like 12 people. The guy responsible was a solider, not a cop, unless he happened to be in a military police unit. They got in a fight and Moreno fell and hit his head. I suppose no one on here ever got in a fight?? I doubt the guy maliciously wanted to put anyone in a coma. He deserves to get charged with assault and that’s what they’re doing. Some people seem to automatically put race into everything without even reading beyond the first article.

Dominicans and Haitikans need to promote more positive energy in both sides of the island. A basic dynamic of energy is that we attract who we are.
