SANTO DOMINGO.- The standoff between Haitian and Dominican truckers staged in the border towns of Jimani and Malpasse has ended after high-level talks including the presence of Santo Domingo’s ambassador in Port-au-Prince, Ruben Silie Gaton, a Dominican Today source said Friday afternoon.

The ambassadors from Haiti, Fritz Cineas, and Dominican Republic Rubén Silié in a joint press conference in the Foreign Relations Ministry today, lamented the violent deaths in the Herrera sector, and stressed that the situation wouldn’t jeopardize bilateral relations.

DT reporters went to the market district Little Haiti, in Santo Domingo’s downtown, where Haitian truckers and vendors said they were surprised at the latest spate of violence between Dominicans and nationals from their country, and some were wary of talking to the press or allowing their picture to be taken.

Ada, a woman of about 40 who didn’t want to say her last name said Dominicans treat her well, but complained that the Dominican authorities at the border crossings, “always steal from us.”

Talking in broken Spanish while sorting her wares of mostly garments from the “pacas” (bails of clothing), the Haitian citizen also railed the Dominican Police because they allegedly abuse her compatriots by “shaking us down” for money. “As soon as I sell what I have left I’m going back home (Haiti).”

Meanwhile, the vendor and retired Dominican policeman, Juan de Jesus Heredia, 65, said he’s been working with and around Haitians for 30 years, and affirms that he gets along well with them, calling the recent violence, "things that always happen.”

He said in his time in Little Haiti Dominicans and Haitians have gotten along despite the “problems” between the governments. “Things happen but just fistfights and stuff, but we should help the Haitians because they just want to come here and get what they need.”

Get what they need? You mean to take the island and/or it's resources?

At the macrolevel, these politicians want to give the impression of KUMBAYA but at the microlevel these two populations hate each other (given they are different). The best thing to do when two people don't get along in a relationship is divorce and complete separation. Trying to keep alive the bleeding that they can not heal IS REALLY STUPID!

DR better control that border and integrate the border towns more with STO DGO so that complete separation from the Haitian towns can be accomplished!

Given that the Haitian are displacing the locals from jobs, from the land, from the subsidies, and gaining political power, MORE OF THE EXPLOSIONS ARE EXPECTED. It is better to divorce now than continues with the sporadic frictions!

Don't feel alone, Ada. The Dominican authorities at the border steal from everyone. And the rest of the Dominican authorities steal from every one as well.

I see more and more haitian trolls joining DT just to talk snit from their ivory towers abroad.

I guess they have to show some pride somehow.

I am for real, I decided to be open about it. I will not rest until I see this problem solved. Haiti should simply not exist. A failed nation, failed state, faile people. WHEN I SAW THOSE PICS OF HAITIANS BURNING THE MOST SACRED SYMBOL (my flag) I HAVE SEEN IN MY LIFE, I CRIED OF FRUSTRATION. That image will always be in my mind. ALWAYS...

Sometimes we encounter people who are poor in spirit, limited in their thinking and every time they face a violent events have become more aggressive. These disturbing events decrease by 98% their trial and they are linked to the vengeance and this demonstrates their functional disability, but what we call mental. So you are totally devoid of sense and trial. This is my way of designing an ignoramus.

The problem we now confront is a problem of imbalance between Haiti and the Dominican rep. hence the need to promote an action plan to revive the Haitian economy which will cause the return of Haitians to their homeland. The best way to win this battle is the reconstruction of our country. The rhetoric has more room it's time to act.

Since the Haitians are always unwelcome and they are always ill-treated in Dominican Rep. The Bateilles is a glaring example, are they not human beings? What will we do to defuse this time bomb? We must find a lasting solution and the time is now. There is no choice left than to boycott the Dominicans products, to cancel all flights and all transactions until we find an appropriate solution. It's time to plan accordingly in order to have our own factories, our workers, our products, our consumers ...

Haiti
you're the first troll to at least take responsibility for the actions of your government and recognized
that your country is a total wreck.
The time is now, so you can boycott all you want and recall the 2 million+ of your compatriots back into your country and build something.
But in your way out write a thank you note to the Dominican people for tolerating and supporting you for the last 100 years.

No trade with Haiti can be bless. The presence of such a market is negative rather than a positive. Haiti are too poor and their lack of sophistication would maintain Dominican products behind. We have more and more sophisticated consumer in Latin America and the larger more developed world. Haiti is too poor to be considered a significan market.

Hello !!!!
I have read most of the posts here and they say nothing about the issue at hand...

They have been allegetions over the dominican's side that a dominican's business man was killed allegedly by a haitian....Do we have prove of that???that remains to be seen!!!!
But a cold and cowardly act of barbarism has taken an innocent haitian life...and people laughing, taking picture of the decapitated dead body of that young haitian man....

If that is not downright outrageous and appalling, then tell me what is!!!!

The haitians have all their given rights to protest and raise hell until this stops....For somebody who wants to remaind ignorant about the plight of the haitians in the Dominican Republic...so please do stay ignorant and keep it to yourself....

Some of you are not informed and you also have a behavioural problem. There is an imbalance in the trial and savoir vivre. The way you behave it seems that Dominicans never migrate. According to the statistics gathered there are Dominicans everywhere in the world you can underline Porto Rico, Spain, the United States, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile and so on ... In terms of behaviour, are they impeccable? I leave you the choice to answer this question.

Dominican something bothers me, you're always in a bad mood, you have venom that flows from your mind. It seems every time I tell the truth you are insulted. I note what you said while respecting your views. This is the only way to discover who are our enemies and who are our friends. I hope that your way of describing Haiti and the Haitians will serve as a lesson to Haitians businessmen who invest in the Dominican Rep.. You can tell the truth without reflecting the image of an animal. First of all, I believe that you are a human being.
I would be upset if some of us didn’t have projects for Haiti. One day I will invite you to come over and have a good time.
