Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s chief Prosecutor assigned bodyguards to one of his senior assistants and a colonel who’s the entity’s liaison with the United States embassy, after uncovering an alleged plot to kill them.
Radhamés Jiménez said Assistant DA Bolivar Sanchez and colonel Alejandro Dipre were assigned bodyguards to prevent the plot from materializing.
He said the Justice Ministry, the National and other law enforcement agencies investigate the threat, allegedly by Alejandro Paniagua (Quirinito) a nephew of the drug trafficker and ex Dominican Army captain Quirino Paulino.
He said Sanchez and Dipré have been involved in complex investigations, mainly on drug trafficking and which have solved many crimes, but refused to specify.
Jimenez also rejected that the country has become ‘a small Mexico’ assuring that he has relations with Latin American prosecutors, who assure him that this is a calm country.
The official spoke in a press conference in the Dominican Telecom Institute (INDOTEL), where he announced the seizure of several bootleg cell phones and the filing of charges against their owners.
