SANTO DOMINGO. - Several people of an alleged ID theft ring detained and charged, more than 1,000 cell phones seized and hundreds of denunciations filed, is the result of an operation carried out by technicians of the Dominican Telecom Institute (Indotel) with inspectors of the Police Department’s High-Tech Crimes Division -DICAT- and the Justice Ministry.

Indotel president Jose Rafael Vargas, during a press conference to present the stolen cell phones, said the operation aims to put a stop to the practice of illegally activating mobile telephones by stealing the identity of citizens.

Also present were Justice minister Radhamés Jiménez, Police chief Rafael Guzmán, CODETEL president Oscar Peña, and Indotel Executive director Joelle Exarhakos.
