SANTO DOMINGO.- Representatives of all denominations and churches marched to Congress Wednesday to reject any attempt by lawmakers to amend the article which bans abortion in a second roll call of the reformed Constitution.
With large posters and chanting slogans through a ullhorn, the marchers set off from Mirador Park, voicing their position against the possible attitude on the part of legislators to change the controversial article 30.
"We wish to draw the attention of the Dominican Republic, since there’s been an attempt to confuse the population telling it that the approval of the current article 30 constitutes an obstacle to scientific research, maternity and birth control methods," said Matilde Feliz, of the Tabernacle Prayer Church.
With the results of the Latin-Barometer survey in hand, which found that 66% of Dominicans oppose abortion, they reached Congress, where they handed a statement to a group of legislators stating their position.
They said if article 30 is modified it would open a breach to the proposal of legalizing abortion, now in the Chamber of Deputies.

Maybe the ones who like abortion should kill themselves and open space for the new ones coming. That's a solution too then we would not have over population but is easier to take the life away of a innocent child who didn't ask his parent to be inresponsible right.

Abortion is the only crime that goes unpaid in USA but i'm glad DR has taken the step to punish it. Ask your self if you mom would had a abortion instead of having you would you been here posting?

Abortion is a very complicated topic. On the one hand there is the right to life of the baby which is formed and ready to come out within just a few months. But on the other hand, DR is still a poor country where a lot of women without resources do not have access to adequate birth control methods. Then there is the lack of accountability and child support on behalf of fathers when the couple separates. I think the Consitution should stick to what the majority of the Dominican people want.

It is Woman's right to chose over her own body. If she chooses to have an abortion or not, who's business or right it is it to tell her whether she can or cannot? It's no ones business or right, but her own. That is why there are so many fatherless, motherless and parentless children running the streets in DR. For some women of no means or poor or little means abortion is a form of contraceptive, unfortunately because they have no access to other options. By approving abortion does not mean that most women are going to flock hospitals and clinics to have them. It just gives them that options if they chose it. but by banning it altogether we will definately see a rise in back alley abortions and in deaths of women that have attempted them. And to does bible dumpers, go dump on something and if you feel holier than thou than go to an orphanage and adopt some.

I agree with you to an extent, I personally am against abortion depending on the circumstances. But you said some women are poor and have no means to obtain some type of contraceptive, then my question is, why are the females continuing to have sex? I'm not saying the females should not have sex pero if you know you can't afford a condom, what puts you in the position to commit an action that will change your life forever? Having a child is suppose to be a blessing, something life altering and positive. The number of abortions that occur in DR makes it un relajo already. These females know that there is a possiblity of getting pregnant, if you know you not ready stop putting yourself in that situation.

Uneducation failure from Government + Voodoo Catholic Church to blame first hand. In all sivilized communities around the world information, education and use of contraceptives are a main issue to lower abortion and fight aids, except were the Voodoo Catholic Church reigns.

This is not about God or Devil is not about Sex or not Sex is about right and wrong. there are many option to protect against pregnancy and we all know them but choose to ignore them.
Now to all of you pro-abortion what would had happen if your mother had chosen to have a abortion when she was pregnant with you?

Its a dumb question to ask what I would say if my mother aborted me. I would not be here to tell and I sure as hell would not now a damn thing about it. On the other hand I do not know what I would have done to my mum or dad if I were left in utter misery for most of my childhood or further.

I agree with you.....It all boils down to RESPONSIBILITY, RESPONSIBILITY, RESPONSIBILITY contraception is both parties RESPONSIBILITY and "GOT TO GET IT" besides I'm reminded of the saying "What goes around, comes around" we are the smartest species on Earth, yet we forget to use what's between our ears ! I work for the School District and have talked to many young Females who have aborted, the physiological impact last a life time. Many regret getting pregnant in the first place, if only ?. I just wonder how many readers out there would support their Daughters choice for an abortion, or would not be bothered if some stud bucket targeted their Daughter for extra activities and think nothing of it.

I know girls that had abortion and is not just a physiological problems but the health problem that many here fail to see. Many of those who have had abortion became sterile and no longer can enjoy the feeling of being parents. Many more health problems comes consequences of the same but you will never hear that because if we make people responsible then how is the health industry going to replace that extra money that comes from abortion and what's next we know is that tax payer will be paying for the abortion and the game keeps going after that. the problem with it is that this crime doesn't have the 3 strike rules and once in place they can have a many abortion as they wish and so how they think that leads to a healthier world.

Abortion is the easy way out for the "sinverguenzas" machos Dominicanos that impregnate woman after woman in many cases via statutory rape and don't want the "burden" of a child.

Most don't know that in the US abortion is a MULTIBILLION dollar BUSINESS !!
In the wake of legalized murder are many victims; the child,the mother and sometimes even the father who actually wants his child to be born.
It's very interesting that if a criminal shoots a woman and kills the unborn child the criminal is charged with murder but if the mother decides to terminate that same child it is perfectly legal !!
This is feminism disguised as a human right because it gives WOMEN the exclusive right over life and death and although many like to label the extreme cases many abortions have become just an alternate form of contraceptive post facto .
Abortion cannot be defended by any person of good conscience and many who defend it do so out of one minded support of all leftist ideals but if confronted with the ugly reality of abortion would hesitate to support such an abomination.

well said there. That's the question i have been asking here. What if all pro abortion people had been aborted. The answer to that would be maybe we would have a world of more responsible people that live up to the most basic standard of moral values(we shall not kill). Most have never seen a abortion take place or what happens to the parents after that. Como dicen "Ojos que no ven corazon que no siente". I have 2 kids and never in my entire life has aborting cross my mind because i can stand up and be responsible for my actions but to some here is easier to kill the innocent that to teach the old lost kids to become responsible because now days being responsible and having moral values is some how not healthy any more. But hey the Health industry has done a great job to brainwash them to think is "healthier to have abortion".

Sorry I meant "Psychological Problems" Woman / Young Lady's go threw a host of problems, that that tear's at the very natural instinct to guard, protect, nurser [most hate the sight of pregnant Woman or the crying sounds of Baby.
And to add the physical aspect like, when the procedures is done [suction] a small layer of the Uterus is also removed sometimes causing sterilization, meaning the Fertilized egg is unable to attach to the Uterus. I believe Abortion is MURDER and is one of the most selfish act a Woman can do believing she has the right of life and death. Imagine the Doc that thinks nothing of the MURDERESS act he has performed, only to repeat it ! as far as RESPONSIBILITY the problem is the World is in short supply of REAL MEN in that respect as a DOMINICANO I'm out ragged at the attitude we foster towards Woman in general. It's safe to say we are becoming a Bastard Nation where Woman have multiple Children with multiple Men. HOW SAD !
