SANTO DOMINGO.- The National District Prosecutor warned that contract killings have increased in the country, and is opposed to civilians, government officials and the military carrying guns in public.
Alejandro Moscoso said when a gun of unknown origin is seized, it should be destroyed and that the bearing of weapons must be regulated.. “That’s going to contribute to fewer weapons," he said, though acknowledged that the practice is that seized weapons are reassigned.
The official also warned that murder-for-hire has increased in the country, which he blames on the rise in drug trafficking
Moscoso said narcotics traffickers’ drug airdrops also include weapons used for contract killings. "The drugs often come with guns."

Possesion of drugs SOMETIMES carries stiffer penalties than murder in the D.R. Life has much less value than an 8 ball. Hiring some street cockroach to knock off your X's old man for 1000 pesos seems as easy as hiring a prostitute for an hour and there is always an abundance of desperate , willing job seekers who stand to loose nothing more than 6 months to a year out of thier life getting free room and board in the slammer. How sad , but how true.
