Santo Domingo.- In a recent spate of incidents in clinics, businesses, the Colonial Zone and even the pedestrian shopping street El Conde people became drowsy from smelling a substance hawked by individuals as a “sensational perfume,” to quickly steal their belongings.
Their victims of the hustlers, both men and women also use public cars and buses to promote the “perfume” in cinemas, discos, and even parking lots.
It was learned that in the case of the clinics, the hustlers take the product in small cases, briefcases and folders, open the doors to the rooms and if there’s only one person accompanying a patient, mainly a woman, they enter to offer it. “My lady, I have here the most sensational offer of the moment”, say the thieves, taking the “perfume” from the case and treat their victims to a “whiff.”
They soon vanish with the patient’s valuables as well as of the one who accompanies them.
Once news of the novel scam spread yesterday, around 11 people called newspaper El Nacional, five of whom said they were victims in clinics and, others in the Colonial Zone and in El Conde.

btw: This problem appeared in Canada a couple of years ago. I got an email warning of this "scam". The perpetrators were catching people in parking lots at malls and grabbing purses, bags and whatever else they could grab. :{
