SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic’s energy czar has donated RD$6 million to foundations of legislators, and the catholic and evangelical churches since 2008, has to 43 relatives with high salaries on the Dominican State-owned Electrical Companies (CDEEE) payroll, and a list of advisers which includes president Leonel Fernandez’s brother, Delcio Andújar Reyna, with RD$126,000, despite residing in the United States.

The journalist Nuria Piera reports that among CDEEE executive vice president Radhamés Segura’s advisers is ruling PLD party leader Carlos Amarante, with RD$100,000; Jose Antonio Guzmán Alvarez, with RD$200,000, and Ana Altagracia Hernandez Liriano, with RD$160,000, Héctor Rosario Hernandez, ex executive director of Puerto Rico’s Energy Authority, with US$6,928.

Among the donations figure US$320,583.66to the Office of the Archbishop of Santo Domingo, US$10,000 for president Fernandez’s Global Foundation; RD$400,000 to the foundation of the deputy Manuel Jiménez; RD$875,000 for Rogelio Genao’s; RD$100,000 for Ruddy González’; one million pesos for the Foundation Youth 2000, and Kenya Bisono RD$800,000.

In deputy Jiménez’s case he said they really received only RD$400,000, and that can provide details as to how his organization he presides spent "peso per peso."

Genao, the minority opposition PRSC party spokesman, said his father’s foundation  received RD$50,000 from the CDEEE, "and not RD$875,000 as Nuria said in her program and I can show documents."

Piera revealed a study by Bernardo Castellanos that found a 52.74% increase in personnel of the electrical companies since 2004, raising the payroll from RD$84 million to RD$400 million, and to 8,862 employees.

She said the CDEEE pays advisers wages to lawyers, PLD leaders, journalists, engineers and even business leaders, and nearly RD$100 million between 2007 and April, 2009 to international consultants and personalities.

So now you all know why Segura and his friends are untouchable, kudos to Nuria for daring to get into this hornet's nest as many journalists before her suddenly "changed their minds" about speaking up.

Face the reality, everyone... Senator Williams remains untouched as do the corrupt thieving politicians, Military, Police, and for that matter all the crooks that can afford to make the necessary "donation" to keep them free. Doesn't anyone care? I guess not. I guess that I am the one that has to face reality.

Is this the reason they raised the electrical rates?

This would be embarrassing to anyone except a Dominican. They are shameless.

They are completely transparent about their corruption because they wear it as a badge of honor. Macho pieces of shit.

Oh this is classic Dominican. He makes it sound that this is OK when the electrical system is a dismal failure. Screw him I want my money back.

Typical, nothing really shocking here. This is only the "Tip of the Iceberg". The entire executive cabinet is basically in the same shape, full of friends and family members, Many don't even go to the office (to work),they just collect a paycheck. Remember Alejandrina's (Ed Sec.) daughter, who worked/consulted for Ladom (milk contract) who also had a position with the Dominican Counsulate in NYC. She lived (I believe) in Santiago at the time. Soon the good people of the DR will not accept this crap and will throw the bastards out. Time for CHANGE ! only dominicans can make that happen !

Leonel might not be a thief but everyone around him seems to be one. I bet most of these people do not even hold a bachelors degree and are allowed to hold such high positions. I blame US, that's right We as Dominicans for allowing this to go on. We can simply take charge of the situation but we decide to watch from the sidelines and let these crooks run the country into the ground. Honduras first, lets make La Republica Dominicana next.

Now it is a few days later since Nuria revealed all this, and I see that the media is showing very little interest in the subject; one news program that did mention it spent merely 20 seconds on the subject; using words like "supposedly" to describe the accusations made by Nuria.

This is going to be covered with a big blanket of silence, and in 2 weeks everyone will have forgotten about it.
