Santo Domingo. – on June 13 president Leonel Fernandez will unveil the monument to honor the heroes of June 14, 1959, date on which 50 freedom fighters arrived in the country by air and sea, in a failed attempt to topple Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship.

On that day the Head of State will travel to Constanza to head the ceremony, with the presence of representatives from all the fighters’ home countries, including the United States, Cuba, Guatemala and Costa Rica.

The Airports Department built the monument after the Government designated the Commission to Commemorate the Expedition’s 50th Anniversary, headed by Mayobanex Vargas, Poncio Pou Saleta and Delio Gómez Ochoa, among others.

This is a good thing. Jimenez Moya and his failed expedition should never be forgotten by the Dominican people.
