SANTO DOMINGO.- For being married to Narciso Isa Conde, the admitted associate of the Colombia terrorist group FARC, Lourdes Contreras (Lulu) nor their children may travel to the U.S., whose State Department describes them as “inadmissible.”

Newspaper Nacional reports that Contreras personally provided the information to United States general consul Michael R. Schimmel, who said Isa Conde is registered under the definition “linked to terrorist activities.”

In a document, Contreras, who was held in Miami on May 13, revealed that she met yesterday with the consul, who acknowledged an inadequate treatment when they prevented her entry into U.S. territory. “I understand that with that affirmation United States general consul is expressing the existence of a condemnation against my entire family.”

She said that Schimmel explained to her that one of the paragraphs in the United States antiterrorism legislation stipulates that the spouses and children of people who are under that condition fall under the inadmissible category.

Contreras said the U.S. consul stated his willingness to give her the written information on the case, as well as to issue a response to the diplomatic note channeled through the Foreign Relations Ministry.  “Regarding that information from said official, my immediate reaction was that of defense of my condition as a person with strong and historical political commitment with the best causes in my country.”

She stated her concern that Isa Conde’s “linked to terrorist activities” denomination by the State Department can affect her and her family’s physical integrity and facilitates the criminal plans denounced by her husband.
