SANTO DOMINGO. – Naval Intelligence (M-2) and the U.S Coastguard detained 19 Dominicans and four foreigners on the high seas aboard a homemade boat headed to Puerto Rico early today.

Navy chief Homero Lajara said the interdiction of the l9 Dominicans, three Haitians and one Cuban took place on a 2l-foot boat, which had been robbed in the area of Nisibon, Higuey (east) by people traffickers, is the result of the "shield" the Navy and Coastguard erected in the Mona Pass against illegal crossings.

He said he ordered the transfer of the 23 boatpeople from La Romana to Santo Domingo.

The official said five boats have been stolen by people traffickers since May 30, three of which were recovered by the M-2.

Newspaper Diario Libre said the 23 travelers had each paid between 40,000 and 60,000 pesos to the organizers.

Early morning Sunday a group of boatpeople headed to Puerto Rico exchanged gunfire with a Navy patrol.

Danny please, they could care less about the lives, all they care about is making sure they don't make it to the PR shores. PR's have always talked mad s**t about Dominicans even before these incidents. The guns part was learned from the Haitians, a similar incident just happened with them trying to get to Miami not even a month ago.

And this is what the two governments sharing the island must do to stop the illegal migration business. You get rid of the passers and you will get rid of the illegal immigration. And until both of them are serious about tackling the problem, Dominicans and Haitians will still die at sea and be devoured by sharks in the mona and windward canals.

UN 2e HOMME ARRÊTÉ POUR TRAFFIC D’IMMIGRANTS
MIAMI (Etats-Unis), 10 juin 2009 (AFP) -

Unfortunately, it is in French and I don't know if there are a lot of you who can speak and write this language. In case you'll find it difficult, it will be a pleasure for me to translate it for you. however, I am pretty sure that most of you here are educated enough to translate and understand the article.

@oupala07,

Those who get paid lavishly by promising an ideal life to the Dominicans impostors are and they owe their acts paid.

@oupala07.
