Nicolas de Jesús López Rodríguez after the mass yesterday.
Santo Domingo. - Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez yesterday asked the government to investigate denunciations of corruption and establish responsibilities in the cases in which a crime has been committed.
“It’s not noble to accuse everybody and to try to condemn the people with denunciations. It’s up to a judge to condemn after accusing and presenting evidence,” Lopez Rodriguez said to journalists, adding that to a great extent it’s up to the President to order those investigations.
Whereas the Bishop emeritus Francisco Jose Arnaiz, also affirmed that the people in charge of fighting corruption are doing very little to confront it and warned that official statements and words won’t fight it efficiently.
Lopez Rodriguez, speaking in the Seminary Santo Tomás after a mass to mark the first graduation of 40 catholic reporters, demanded action by law enforcement to punish corruption, warning that if they don’t do their duty, then others must. “Those organisms are obviously for attending the citizenship’s demands, but if they don’t do so then don’t they exist.”
The Cardinal affirmed that the nation’s perception that corruption exists is more than confirmed. “And now what must be done is to look for a way to correct it and to punish it.”
Arnaiz complained that few corruption cases are taken to court and those that do aren’t penalized, due to the moral deterioration of the Judiciary. “The bad thing is that Justice isn’t very honest either once the complaint is taken to it.”
“Corruption in the country is immune and unpunished and there’s no one who can touch it”, Arnaiz said. “Everyone who steals, from the President down to you or I, whomever, if we are caught at it, we must pay for that crime.”
He added that statements or words aren’t going to correct corruption, and that is what appears is being done.

It is very good to have the catholic church stating that there is corruption here, the anti corruption officials are not doing enough nor are the courts particularly honest ..but I think the church in this country is seen as a paper tiger ,Still better to have them onside in the struggle for honest government and society rather than against.
Some sundays , I attend one or two of the beautiful old churches in Zona Colonial and more often than not there is a young priest talking about the problems of corruption when in power so maybe is more than just the Cardinal and the Bishop getting onto the bandwagon

If corruption is such a problem for you why on earth did you accept money from such corrupt officials? It was stolen money you are just as guilty. Perhaps your little announcement is your own way of easing your own conscious. Be honorable and give that money to the people. If the stats are correct and the average income is only 240USD per household - it means that most people simply cannot afford electricity - still surprised on why they steal it? Then the government put new laws in place to punish those who steal electricity - without punishing those who steal from the people with their high price on electricity. Seems like just like the French elite did before the French revolution, this country's top structures take care of their rich friends who take advantage of the poor. What a shame.

Wait, I thought he outranked him! Isn't he the Primate; Orang-utan, Chimp-anzee in excellency?

Bueno:Los burros no comen bizcocho!
They need real food, real wages, real representative government instead of wise guys that just insult the people's intelligence. They also need genuine religious leaders that get in the trenches with the common folks; (que se fajan a laborar) not ones that hang around a tropical country in ankle long gowns pontificating about what's right and wrong. Stop covering this buffons emmissions; He reminds me of the Dominican Cebu, or Bramah Cows and Oxen, mass methane production. Spare us all his nonsense, por amor a Dios!
