SANTO DOMINGO.- One of the ruling PLD party’s most respected senior leaders on Wednesday disqualified the prestigious NGO Citizen Participation (PC) from criticizing government corruption.

Insurance superintendent Euclides Gutiérrez affirmed that it’s the PC’s members who are corrupt and should be audit to know from “where they get the funds to travel around with suits, neckties and automobiles all day.”

“Who gives it to them, how do they get it, from where do their salaries come from, you need to have phlegm the size of this building to speak of corruption. Who are they, a bunch of boys who speak well, without political life nor militancy and a history of work, with the exception of Luis Scheker who’s an excellent lawyer,” he said.

Gutiérrez, one of the PLD’s founders and a member of its Political Committee, affirmed that with the exception of Scheker and Juan Bolivar Diaz, nobody knows PC’s other members and doesn’t know with what authority they speak of corruption.

E. Gutierrez statement almost rises to level of "misuse of power" ....(approaching) that of the "brutal murders of the Mirabal sisters" ordered by Trujillo. Guiterrez is just following orderes from above. How can these clowns get away with statments like this, when everyone can see what is happening. Is LF beginning to lose control of his PLD ??

It is very interesting to note what this man Gutierrez considers are important qualifications before being able to speak against the very obvious corruption in the DR . a political life, a military life and a known record of work ....what a joke these two parties are when you have to read this rhetoric and about time the youth of the DR came out to start a progressive party with sound values

his comments are a bit odd. Don't seem sincere but I might be reading this wrong. Not sure if it's me or what, but it seems as if he wants to deflect some of the blame and point it towards somewhere else. Not sure but seems odd.

Freedom of speech for all who want to agree with the corrupt practices of the PLD and PRD. The rest of us have no right to say anything.

This kind of reminds me of the "King's New Clothes" fairy tale.

If you look in the dictionary under Dominican Politician there is a cartoon of a fat guy stuffing his pockets with cash.

Hey Guiterrez:

Commment on this, please:

Segura travels, DR gets blackouts
Controversial Executive Vice President of the Dominican State-run Electricity Companies (CDEEE) Radhames Segura traveled to the Middle East to accompany President Leonel Fernandez, while on the home front 12-hour+ blackouts are back. The blackouts follow two major increases in power rates levied on paying consumers.

What's that? Speak a little louder please. We can't hear you.

Segura should at the very minimum be under House Arrest untill due proscess has put the last nail in his coffin, not galivanting around the globe WITH the PRESIDENT like all is OK. What the hell is going on??? Somebody please give LF a pair of hearing aides and some glasses so that he can comprehend the situation and who he is traveling with. I would be embarassed to be seen in public with Segura.

It's the oldest trick in the book attack the messenger so you don't have to deal with the message; in this case institutionalized corruption!

PC get more of its funds from European union, United states embassy etc cause most of their statements represent the true.

why didn't gutierrez say anything when PC aproved LF victory in 2008 election when the were "watchers".

or why didn't he said anything when 2003 PC spoke about the fraud in BANINTER.

is simple cause if you anything against the goverment then you PRD that's what he meant

si los cuartos de PC no vienen del gobierno a el no debe importarle lo que ellos digan pues no es con los chelitos de los bolsillos de euclides que ellos se mantienen

antonio 1 does all that matter when everyday we read here and in the papers about the continual corruption in the government and the courts ,the scandals in the electricity, the Presidential pardons to rich criminals , the return of an aeroplane used to import illegal money together with corrupt tender processes ...It seems everyone is just waiting for some one strong to take a moral stand against this government and both political parties ..so does it matter very much what they wear, what cars they drive and whether they wear a suit and tie when what they say is so obviously the truth

"so does it matter very much what they wear, what cars they drive and whether they wear a suit and tie when what they say is so obviously the truth"

It matter to this citizen..... The rapid proliferations of NGOs and people in the movement in DR have big plans and have gained a fair amount of momentum and they usually goes unchallenged, because the government is afraid at world opinion, but the longer it goes on, the harder it will be to put an end to it later. NGOs like Batey Relief Alliance, FUNGLODE and Frontier Solidarity in Dajabón and others that masked in secrecy have become immensely powerful.

pardon me while i get back on my chair. i just fell off it, due to a bout of uncontrollable laughter. afraid of world opinion? if they were, do you think they would allow this guy's statements to be published, wherein the world can read them? these are days of a little thing called the internet, antonio. do you realise what sane people the world over think of this country after reading such an incredibly idiotic set of musings by a purportedly "senior" member of the party? the guy is an embarrassment, in case you don't realise it.

It was about time someone in the government brings up the devastating work most of this NGOS are doing against the Dominican Republic and its citizens.
What have the NGOS done for the Dominican people lately?

Let's get rid of all NGOs starting with Solidaridad Pronteriza who are giving away our land little by little to the Haitians and the Jesuits.

Because our government is corrupt it doesn’t mean they should not be let these NGOS know that they are foreigners in our land and they could be kicked out of our country.

I think I want to donate money to the PC!

Anyone or any group that points out the obvious corruption in the administration gets my support. Now if they could only actually do something to change it but I think that's going to be a country effort.

A friend of a friend that deals with high level government officials made this statement:
"The current group of individuals at the highest level of government are some of the most intelligent people I've seen in governing here in the DR. That's exactly what makes them so dangerous. They're more corrupt than the Hipolito group and much more intelligent."
