SANTO DOMINGO.- The Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) arrested two Spaniards who tried to fly to Madrid yesterday afternoon, with a large amount of cocaine in three false bottom suitcases, just two days after two Germans were detained in Punta Cana under similar charges.

DNCD chief Gilberto Delgado said also arrested were two Dominicans, a man and a woman, who accompanied the Spaniards to the Las Americas International Airport in a white Toyota Corolla.

The Spaniards are Gumercindo Diez, 26, and Carmela Leon, 36, were prearing to travel to Madrid aboard Air Europa flight UX-088, whereas the Dominicans were identified as Carlos Manuel Cordero and Ceily Carolina Guzmán.

The official said two checks were also seized from the Spaniards, one for RD$700,000 and another for RD$600,000, the first in their name as well as a copy of another, under the name of a German identified as Rudolf Johann Huber.

This is becoming a sad joke. How much of the stuff is getting through, if they are capturing this much in 1 week? Why would a Dominican couple stick around in the airport to get caught with the Spaniards? These cases don't pass the "Smell Test". There appears to be inside players. Could it be someone with the DNCD (DR Drug Enforcement) playing both sides? Why only Pt Cana? Nothing is going out via POP, AZS, SDQ?

I feel sorry for both of them, but more for the woman with her sad face of despair. It will not be easy for her to get used to DR women's prison. If lucky and with a lot of legal help she may be out after a few years, that is if she or her family has the resources.
She will hopefully return home in one piece, and probably carting a young one. Sad lesson to learn not to mess with the "federales" in DR.

These are the unskilled, unconnected, beginner smugglers. If you stop to consider how many thousands of pounds of drugs pass through our island you will realize that we have stopped a peo in a sh_t storm.

Funny thing but yesterday the previous drug carriers were described as british and we were talking about security in England ,,maybe these latest two will turn out to be French

They were probably used by the real smugglers as a human sacrifice to divert attention, as it is usually the case.

The payout is made by check , good to know , they have to find the bank account and the owner of it this way they're going to start to finda big source of money laundry and a big drugs traffic ring.

Do I have to help the DR drugs enforcement dpt. (DNCD) to investigate ?

That poor girl has no idea what shes in for. Hopefully they have the resources to keep her away from the worst of the DR prisons. I also don't understand how they thought they could get away with this. I couldn't imagine trying to smuggle anything out of the DR with all the security , xray machines , and drug dogs I always see on outbound flights.

DR is the new Miami!

You apparently were not in Miami during the 1980's...Scarface and Miami Vice did not come close to showing how much powder or MONEY was in the streets...when you start seeing moto-concho drivers picking up passengers on HD Road Kings and Electro-Glides THEN you might be close to the DR being the new Miami....

The DR is simply the newest drop point in the Caribbean and more people are trying to make a buck. My guess is they are catching about 5% of what is actually flying out. The Euro-trash dope smugglers are simply pawns traded off while the major loads are placed on the planes via the drink and food carts which are loaded from trucks on the tarmac.

Watch who is driving the new cars and wearing new gold, while working in uniform....they will be "insider"....

These Europeans seem stupid but reality is that they've done it successfully so many times before! The RD Gov, police & military know this.

Remember the DNCD in Puerto Plata partner with & bribed airport workers there & also in JFK? What is being caught is a tip of the iceberg.

The RD authorities know who the main drug wholesaler movers are in the RD (because they're career criminals with long records). But like Army Capt Paulino, the RD Gov does "as little as possible" until the US Gov forces them (RD Gov).

As commented this capture is a small % of the total, much like a 2-3% yield loss when manufacturing sugar or flour (some of it falls on the floor to be wasted). For the drug movers in the RD who held these drugs for a cooling off... this capture is a part of their yield loss business equation.

If the police/DNCD won't stop the drugs from entering they can AT LEAST raid the inventory spots & prision the players! But its all PAY-2-PLAY!

Reminds me of a story a Family member living in the DR once told me years back.
Truth is any body's guess.
A DR Drug Dealer makes a Drug deal to a tourist....The SELLER then contacts the DNCD about time, and location of departure.....Meanwhile the SELLER and the DNCD officer split the proceeds once all the pay-offs are made, the DNCD officer recollects the white powder while en route to have the contraband destroyed. The DNCD Officer gets promoted and recognition for a great job, well done.

The Dealer happy and wanting more $$ then sets up another deal.

Meanwhile attention is redirected away from the BIG TIME DRUG SMUGGLERS and one gets the feeling something is being done about the Drug problem.

And who says crime doesn't pay...........WHAT A COUNTRY.

When one considers all the pain and suffering associated with the Drug Problem is it any body's guess the price is horribly all way too high.
GOD SAVE US.

WOW !
After a close zoom of the arrest picture attached to this Article, my fist impression from the picture posted is, I'm reminded that a "picture is worth a thousand words".....So they tell Me.

Cut straight to the chase......Pity is given for Carmela at 36 she looks like the type who for what ever reason hooked up with a real winner. Probably went along for the ride and a quick buck.
Talk about a sad made for T.V Chick Flick movie of the week. Imagine the new look on Her face after 10-15 years in a Woman's DR Prison.
Carmela looks like a real partial victim in this case.

As far as Prince Charming Mr. Diez 26...I get the impression of a desperate Hustler buck seeker who found His so called easy [Carmileta] access to quick Riches only to get popped, Busted and disgusted Internationally.
O.K He gets out at age 36........

SEE...... I KEPT MY OUTRAGE AND PERSONAL FEELING OUT THIS ONE.
I still wish the best and will PRAY for all FAMILIES floored from such news.
