Santo Domingo.- Two people were killed including a minor in the sprawling barrio Capotillo north of the capital and a Police major injured in Mirabal province (north), as protests sparked by the extensive blackouts continue nationwide.
The families of Carlos Francisco Peguero, who died of bullet wounds, and of Miguel Angel Encarnacion, 13, accuse the Police for the deaths in the confrontations yesterday afternoon.
However the Police said it investigates the events leading to their deaths in the protests staged around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of the streets Josefa Brea and Central. Peguero died while in the hospital Moscoso Puello, whereas Encarnacion died a few hours in the same hospital.
The Police major Robinson González Hilario was hit by a bullet to the hip when he tried to douse tires set afire amid yesterday’s protests in the city Salcedo, the police report said.
More protests
New protests against the blackouts and the rising electric bill flared up yesterday in communities of the northern Cibao region, including the towns El Pino, Santiago de la Cruz, Pueblo Nuevo, Jaibón, Los Cambronales and La 300, in Dajabón and Valverde provinces.

The people should stand in the streets surrounding the Capitol and block traffic. Those whose companies and jobs that are affected should spend no money except for necessities like food and water and a national strike should be called for Monday.
When Lionel and his global gallavanting group return to the DR, the public should meet them at the airport, filling it to capacity and shout their protests while others block the streets leaving the airport. This will force them to have to fly by helicopter.....and see the Dominicans protesting in the streets.
Under no circumstances should Dominicans turn against one another! Stand as family and fight to be heard!

I have never agreed with this type of social unrest.
BUT. I have had it with these Dominican authorities that lie, lie, lie and DO nothing. This is the ONLY thing they will listen to.
Now BURN down the house and bring them to their knees. F... them ALL.

You can not incite anyone to violence ,,it is a crime in most countries and carries severe penalties ....and this includes the use of the internet .
You can continually press for the much needed reforms but not for physical violence .

Lionel should have a public execution on the Tarmac of the airport on his return from his galavanting of the energy stooge Radhamés Segura......this will temporarily pacify the rabble and will get rid of that loser and then fire the 40 members of his family

Sunday, when LF returns, the pueblo should ignite 10,000 gomas near the end of the runway where LF is to land (Believed to be San Isidro). These need to be place outside the fence. No violence just a smoke signal, Welcoming LF (Mandrake and his ship of fools) back home. It would be more impacting if he landed at night, with a national Black Out, therefore the flames can be used as a beacon guiding him homeward. I would like to see, an educated Commanding General (military) have the "cojones" to set a new face to this government. (btw, PRD is no better). Get the country back on track, as it is now, Out of Control. LF has failed his country/people in his third term.

I agree with you 100% when you stated “The people should stand in the streets surrounding the Capitol and block traffic. Those whose companies and jobs that are affected should spend no money except for necessities like food and water and a national strike should be called for Monday.”
No need for violence and no need to dirty up the city, just bring everything to a halt. This country CAN NOT CONTINUE THIS WAY.
They need to STOP stealing from the people.
They need to STOP spending money on unnecessary construction and fix what they all ready have.

Things in the DR don't change. It's been like this for years. And it will continue for years. Leonel will probably do a temp fix and then things will be bad again. That's the way things go in the DR.

xwill, sadly this is not a joke. There is just too much money being stolen/made by government officials (funcionarios) to get out of this lucrative business (of not supplying electrical power). See how LF has treated Segura in the past 6 months, and you will understand. But you already now this.....

xwill7 ..Perhaps this is the perfect opportunity for a USA private company (like Haliburton) to capitalize & to step in and shore up the problems. Perhaps even a US Federal grant can be achieved through emergency funding from US Congess and even a bailout plan from the north could potentially help. Perhaps the US Congress can implement "Plan Dominican" similar to "Plan Colombia" and wrap a power plant/grid upgrade inside of this "Plan Dominican" and all this can pass at 0300a.m. when the rest sleep. There IS hope for the DR if America has anything to do with it. Leonel must ask his friends in Washington first. ...Ask and thou shall receive.

if American power companies would step in they would fix the problems fast. But the cost will go up since they will need to add security around the entire country to stop the theft of electrical wires. I think that people are so tired of this that alittle extra cost will be acceptable in order to have 24/7 power

Yes Yes, more security is not a problem so long as the American companies come in and fix the problem. And also Gmiller261, yes, what gives the Domincan people the right to destroy their own country? They have no right at all. The US govt again should step in and correct this. Their should be US Legislation to prohibit this and extradite the Dominican perpetrators to US Prisons.

Lie-onel Fernandez’s Metrolandia will go up in smoke if he keeps ignoring the cries of the masses. The people have had it and they are beginning to storm the Bastille.
He continues to be an arrogant, insensitive, egomaniac and is making a mistake thinking that Dominicans have never ending tolerance for theft, corruption, mismanagement and abuse. Remember during the last campaign when he refused to debate the other candidates because his intellect was above every one else’s. Well where is that intellect now when it counts?
Trujillo thought the same way and he did not die of old age.
Wake up and smell the Mangu! The days of this criminal mafia are staring to count down and sooner than later the people will impose their own justice as all of humanity has the RIGHT to do and has done from time immemorial.
Why should Dominicans be any different!

A note to my friend Josean. Stay on topic. When you start to rant, your important and usually accurate analysis loses focus. The Metro is up and running (so far successfully). Keep on talking about everything else that isn't.

$750,000,000 million borrowed dollars with an annual subsidy of $25,000,000 million dollars for a 14km ride is not my definition of success, when in the 21st century you can not guarantee the masses a full day of education or electricity.
But the again there are people who thought the Edsel was a success!
So my friend , juanb, the Metro boondoggle is very much on the TOPIC of waste, corruption and not knowing the difference between a priority an a reelection bridge to nowhere gimmick!

If it was built by Dominican companies, they probably would have cut corners to save money and the metro could have been a huge error.
But I love DR and hope that all of the huge issues are resolved by the time I retire there. If things get worst I don't know what I would do if I am not able to live in peace in DR... I don't want to settle for any other island
