SANTO DOMINGO.- A man wanted in  the United States on four drug trafficking charges decided to turn himself to the Drugs Control Agency Thursday, to face prosecution in that nation.

Rudi Rafael González Taveras signed a notarized affidavit accepting to be escorted to the U.S. voluntarily to face the accusations against him, a decision which led the Supreme Court’s Penal Chamber to void the extradition request.

González is accused of conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and heroin, in violation of U.S. federal laws.

Things are just bad in the DR and he wants out no matter what! My tax dollars will keep him alive for years to come.

My exact thoughts. He is smatter than the average Joe. Skip all the red tape to get a visa to the USA ASAP. He will have three hot meals per day, A/C, cable TV, a chance to learn a trade and buddy up with some fellow Dominican Joes. What a deal.

He's coming here for some training & connections (prison) in hopes of becoming the great "God Father" of the under world in DR, when he is deported at the age of 65 or so.

LETS KEEP IT REAL HERE!

you have it all wrong...... this guy must have a lot of information he can give the dea agents, 'lets make a deal"..... that is why hes not wasting his time waiting around in a dr jail.even if he has good info. hes still going to be out of business for at least 5 years or so and that is if the info is good. in any case his life as a mafia drug man is over., and if he talks to much he will and his family will hide forever.guess he never really thought about all of this when he was playing big shot in the dr!

He knows he can get an easy entry pass into the USA with just the information he has and get a new name and a new life. Sounds like an easy choice.

I think he's running scared and in fear for His own Life in the DR with possible links to main Smugglers and Dealers, and knows His chances are better turning Himself to U.S Federal Law Enforcement Authority's by providing some detail information on His past operations and connections to the DEA, serve His time then go under some Federal protection program.... All at U.S Tax payers expense.
Smart move.

He is a dead man if he stays in the DR because they don't want him to talk to the Fed's.
Now he can enjoy the witness protection program and live happily ever after in Detroit with all the other fugitives.
