President Fernandez returns to a growing yearning for justice.
SANTO DOMINGO.- The number of entities and personalities which demand an end to Government corruption continues to grow despite president Leonel Fernandez’s affirmation that a media campaign stage by the opposition is behind the increasing denunciations.
The Evangelical Unity Council (Codue), cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez Supreme Court president Jorge Subero and the Herrera industries grouped in the AEIH separately demanded the authorities’ urgent action against corruption, to prevent it from becoming a generalized, uncontrolled and unpunished practice.
AEIH president Manuel Cabrera rebuked the Justice Minister Radhames Mejia’s demand that businesses present proof of fraudulent actions by government officials, when the journalists Alicia Ortega and Nuria Piera have revealed enough evidence and signs on the misuse of taxpayers’ money.
The Codue also lamented that the authorities haven’t taken measures against the latest corruption cases, which in its view results in a serious damage to society.
Lopez Rodriguez, who’s also the archbishop of Santo Domingo, said Fernandez must pay more attention to the denunciations on alleged government corruption scandals and charge those responsible. “There’s a lack of will to sanction the corrupt on the part of the competent authority.”
Subero said corruption in public administration will end only with the designation of an anti-corruption Prosecutor, who doesn’t depend on the Executive Branch, but instead is designated by the National Magistrate Council.

What does it matter, who points it out. Is LF has these people prepare his campaigns and they know what he got and when he got it. He also knows that they are not willing to step aside for his benefit or the party's.
So LF plays it slow, but knowing that he may have to sever their Government $. SEGURA is also the PLD's Electoral Chief, so he gets to keep that power slot, but no place to steal $ FROM.
LF could care less who runs CDEEE, since they will get him his $.

Ring the Capitol with vehicles, nobody move...just a non-violent public stand still that will force him to stay inside his "palace" with no lights.....

this is poster Escott's ODDERGUY SYNDROME exemplified. always blame the other guy. it is not the faut of Leo and his satellites. it never is. there is no corruption. it is just a tissue of lies and fabrications concocted by his detractors to make his government look bad. in reality, they are all squeaky clean. guys like Segura, the education chief, the lottery chief, and all the other criminals too numerous to mention, are really just a bunch of choir boys being slandered by malcontents.

My country needs proper leadership to prosecute and remove corruption. I realize as do many do many other of our great citizens that this will be a long and difficult road but this is the key element which has kept the DR from joining the world as a true 1st world country.
If new laws were created and enforced such that corruption at any level would be dealt with by forfeeiture of assets and long jail terms we could make progress.
We just need a few good people in the right places and the process can start.

It's amusing to read the calls for a "strongman." That's not the answer.....the answer should really be an independent agency to monitor and oversee the finances of the government including the finances of these in office. That agency should the have the power to prosecute the sure to be found corrupt politicians and after a couple of stiff sentences the rascals will be left to seek another place to feed. Oh wait, I forgot, we haven't gotten to the point where our courts are independent....oops...there I go again, thinking we're a legitimate nation of laws when what we truly are is a banana republic pretending we're an up and coming nation...shame on the masses for putting up with these thieves.

Ouerido Dominicanos: You all live on a blessed Island, where love and unity must be the most important quest of each and everyone. Government is no better and no worse than each individual in the country. Until the Dominicans start in their homes, and their neighborhoods to clean up their own acts of indiscreation and teach their children what truly is theft, you will never live with honesty in your leaders. From my observation Your leaders don't understand what honesty is. I have a very dear neighbor and as honest as a Dominican can be, but sat right on his front porch and watched as the maestro and his workers walked away with a large share of the cement blocks, and ribar that was supose to go toward building my humble home. He did not notify the police and he said nothing to me until years later. That my dear friends, shows in a little part where the Dominicans must get involved!! When you see and know for certain there is an act of theivery expose it immediately.

As an American living in the DR, I marvel at how many Dominicanos, living in the US have so much to say. ea
example:
"We just need a few good people in the right places and the process can start."
If you had stayed here and organized rallys and protests when you had the chance... maybe you'd still be here.
My view, as a three year DR resident is simple... Yes, its corrupt and good, hard working people are starving as a result of terrible management but they are the ones who voted HIM in.... There are enough of them to FORCE HIM OUT, as well
The reason I stayed and after theree years, its the wonderful people that have become sincere friends that keep me here. If I could, I'd march in front of the Palace with you.
Your country is filled with beauty and passion... Invest it before you lose it! Cahng your voting habits. Know just who you are voting for before you cast that valuable ballot. Fly home and do it in person!

The maybe good thing of Juan Bosch like maybe JFK. Is they were interrupted in their effort to make things better, and their visions remained just that. A standard that we never achieved. A dream based on hope of what could have been.
I hate to think if Bosch would have governed, if in the end, these same types (they were all his pupils) would have comported themselves as they do now. Would BOSCH permit this. I just have to say Like Senator LUGER, we all knew BOSCH and LF is no BOSCH.
They even have Euclides, saying it is politics. He who 1st suggested the PLD should do a better job for the people just a few months ago. They got to him as well, get in line or get out.

The high cost of corruption
A professor at the master in public administration at Funglode, Manuel Villoria told Hoy that if the country reduced corruption in office, it could have savings of RD$65.7 billion. Funglode is the think tank of President Leonel Fernandez.
Villoria spoke of 4% of the Gross Domestic Product, or twice the budget of the Ministry of Education. He was interviewed at Funglode after speaking on "Ethics and Leadership in Public Administration." He said less corruption would translate into more tax collections, domestic and foreign investment and more confidence in the economy. He corroborated the low positioning of the country in regards to the perception of corruption index of the country. Villoria is a member of the Executive Committee of International Transparency in Spain. He is a professor in political science and management at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid.
"The key in government is development strong institutions," he said.
