SANTO DOMINGO.- The call by a group of Dominican artists and TV and radio personalities to support the preservation of one of the country’s most important natural reserves was heeded by adults and children of all ages, who flocked to the Colonial Zone’s Plaza España for the concert Music for Los Haitises.
Around 20 MCs, 20 performers and 110 musicians took the 40 by 40 foot stage, with the support of 15 lights and sound technicians, 60 security agents were the features in the event which began at 4 p.m., when Nashla Bogaret announced that a different group was to appear every 20 minutes.
First in raising the platform it was the group Punto G, followed by Sr. Reyes, Cayhao, Boca Tabú, Pablo Cavallo, Grado Celsius, Xiomara Fortuna, Lenny Abreu, Juango Davalos, Diego Mena, Nelson Poket, Víctor Víctor, Gnomico, Calor Urbano, Janio Lora, Tony Almont, Pavel Núñez, Martes o Venus, Marel Alemany and Son Abril.
The MCs included Angely Báez, Annina Rodríguez, Miralba Ruiz, Raeldo López, Edgar Hernández, Zeny Leyba, Juan Manuel Tejada, Daniela Espinal, Bolívar Soto, Audrey Campos, Silvia Callado, Mauvie Espinosa, Marielle Guerrero, Karina Larrauri, Máximo Martínez, Larimar Fiallo, Carlos Sánchez, Fran Ceara, Mario Peguero, Claudia Cruz, Auto Sónico, Manuel Betances and Aura Rosa.
The concert’s surprise came in the form of a long walk by 20 youngsters who are living at the campsite erected in Gonzalo, Monte Plata province, near the site of the controversial cement plant construction and who’ve become the guardians of that zone of Los Haitises.

This is the first good sign that the youth are about to start taking matters into their own hands. Notice most of the performers and mcs are mostly young, educated people. Im really hoping that this movement will be the catalyst that will start the revolution that is so long over due in our country. We need to take back our country from all these dirt bags that have ruined our country and compromised its future.

Next concert that should be happening will be called "Dan Nos La Luz" Concert. People should keep the wave going with the current blackout issues.

No big commercial brands supported this event from what ive been told so far. The organizers have been selling t-shirts, posters, banners, stickers and all sorts of merchandise with the No Cementera en Los Haitises logo. This is a well organized group of people that know better than to ask big business for support. The consorcio minero and its allies have a lot of strings they can pull in several businesses, hence why you there really isn't much coverage of what is really happening in Gonzalo. People are been threatened everyday by police and "business men." There is a really interesting video on Youtube and on Dominicanoshoy.com of a local woman going at it with the police, while a sneaky pig-like "empresario" films them while threatening them. These people are risking their lives trying to protect something very vital to our ecosystem, more should be done to protect them against any sort of abuse and intimidation.

From: United States, I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

Well AnthonyC if at your age you have never heard of Victor Victor or Xiomara Fortuna, then you really need to do a deep search into Dominican artists. Both have been around for about two decades, both are known outside of our country and both have contributed a lot to the arts. I had the fortune to see Xiomara perform to a full audience here in NYC last year and let me tell you something, she is a professional artist, her performance impecable and her band is on point. She may not be a mambera or bachatera, but thats the beauty of been Dominican. We are blessed with a myriad of rithyms and sounds to please all audiences. Victor Victors early contribution to bachata is up there with JLG. BTW don't dismiss something or some one just out your ignorance.

Magnificent!! It is great to see our young advocating for such great cause.
Now we need to do the same for the border wall.
