I'm still baffled as to why so much was committed to a mass transit system in the capital when there are serious deficiencies in infrastructure nationwide that need to be addressed. This incident in Bonao is what's called 'the chickens coming home to roost'.

Why doesn't the police use rubber bullets or other tactical crowd control measures? The use of such extreme force cannot be simply explained away.

From what I know, the street thugs usually use pistols when comitting crimes (easier to hide), It's the police who break out the shotguns in riot / crowd control situations.

According to the police, the two reporters were shot by protesters, not the police. These protesters are dumber than dumb to shoot the very people that will make thier cause known to the intire country.

Reporters will have to start wearing flack jackets and riot gear in the future.

Its all fun and games until somebody looses an eye and lights a tire on fire . Perhaps Leonel and cronies will finally get thier @#$#$ out of thier easy chairs and start digging reservoirs and building dams when the whole country starts to follow the lead of these protestors?

The public needs to fight for their rights cono no water and lights this is a huge problem for years. It is sad the someone died cause of the this, but the gov't has not fix the number 1 problem in DR which is electricity. There are several problems in DR drugs, crime, corruption, water, light, no work and this list goes on on on on on. IF the gov't wanted they can fix the water problem, but they like when their citizens suffer. Totally unacceptable

This is just ridiculous..... A young man has lost his life because he had the audacity to want electricity and water. Leonel aka "The People's Champion of Honduras" should feel ashamed. The entire leadership of the RD should hang their heads low. There are Dominican citizens dying in the streets over something as simple as electricity and water.....something the Dominican people have a reasonable expectation of, from their government.....Meanwhile Leonel touts his toy train in the capital, and there are now talks of another. This disgusts me. Leonel needs to resign.

There's only so much people can take before someone picks up a rifle and yells "Revolucion!" The powers that be in the RD better get this under control quickly..... A government's first responsibility is the welfare of the people. This is not the case currently in Quisqueya. Shelve the plans for more toy trains and get the electricity flowing for more than four consecutive hours a day.

More protests in more cities....there should be so many fires at night that the space station should see them as it passes overhead.....burn baby burn

yeah is ridiculous that they shot the reporters. I dont know if this protest makes any sense as if most people even want to pay for the electricity, another reason those at the Energy companies dont mind shutting then down, because nobody pays the dam bill and that include alot of those who are burning stuff around, maybe they just wanted to burn something ?

This week its the journalists , a few months ago the Doctors were the scapegoats . Dont panic my Dominican friends ! This is only a test and not some secret agenda of Leo and co. to subtly move the country in to the communistic socialist republic that it seems to be changing into . When did Hugo say he was returning for dinner ?
