Santo Domingo.- The civic movement Toy Jarto Pero Creo en Mi Pais (I’m fed up but I believe in my country) on Wednesday filed a challenge on constitutional grounds against president Leonel Fernandez’s authorization to the company Consorcio Minero Dominicano to build a cement plant at “La Osua”, near the Los Haitises National Park, Monte Plata province (northeast).

The challenge, filed just one month after a lower court handed the project its firs defeat, states that the mining concession issued May 8 violates the Constitution’s article 103, as well as international treaties on Human rights, for which they ask that it be declared illegal, as well as all authorizations and licenses deriving from it.

The lawyers Reemberto Pichardo, Maredi Arteaga, Alberto Paulino and Hermes Güero filed the challenge before the Supreme Court (SCJ), against the cement-making operation, planned on an area of 5,540 hectares, which includes the towns and villages La Cabirma, La Barrica, Monte Claro, La Bomba, Las Cabirmas, La Osua, Batey Los Arroyos, Batey González, Manigua, Batey Sabana Larga, Batey Nuevo and Cabezada de Soto.

Leonel has the best of the best mentorship under the discipleship of the Clintons. Lets not forget that when Slick Willy was President , they almost impeached him when they discovered all those shady real estate deals he was involved in while serving as governor of Arkansas. He took far more heat for that than he did for letting the fat little white girl taste the rawhide under the desk . No wonder he and his little village maker are such special envoys who recieve a heroes welcome whenever they bring the circus to town .

The problem is the Supreme Court doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to Joe Citizen against Failed State. Remember Sun Land..

Fine group of mostly young activists and lawyers, that is what we need more than anything else in DR, more ecological and political activism, instead of living in a zombie state.

This is a good back up since from what we've seen Juan Mayr Maldonado, the UN's so called "expert" overflew the area in a helicopter with jaime el fatal and dined the previous night with the Estrella clan. He didn't meet any of the environmentalist or even set foot in that moist, silty soil to realize its importance. When his decision is made public, I think we are going to have to take to the streets and fight even more. Check out the video TENSION EN GONZALO on youtube and see part of whats happening there.
