President Fernandez in the luncheon Thursday.
Santo Domingo.- President Leonel Fernandez yesterday admitted irregularities in Dominican Government agencies, which he affirms stems from administrative “weaknesses,” an expression of corruption similar to one of his predecessors, Joaquin Balaguer, who coined the phrase “indelicacies.”
Speaking in a luncheon with media directors, Fernandez clarified that he doesn’t have privileged nor protected officials and that those weaknesses aren’t common in departments such as Public Health and the Central Bank since administrative controls were established.
The chief executive said many of those irregularities result from inadequate management of human resources, of cell phones, of fuel, and the unauthorized purchase of vehicles, although those aren’t cases of “hypercorruption” as has occurred in previous administrations. “I believe that we must also restrain that because the population feels disgruntled and irritated with that phenomenon and I believe that is our duty and our obligation to fight to control that.”
Fernandez added that none of the current denunciations on corruption has referred to the embezzlement of public funds, malfeasance or the acceptance of bribes, and warned that he’s ready to fire any corrupt official.

Mr. President, do something to at least leave this country with the belief that in the end you became not a better president, politician or Dominican just a better MAN.

For all i know he is setting up to blow everyone of them, first he wines them , then he dines them and then 69's them........LF definetly asked the directors to keep reporters at bay. I hope thats not the case. If so, one of them is surely against him........He will be diggin his own grave, if thats the case....................TRED LIGHTLY LF.

I guess paying the girlfriend of Radhames Segura" son 90,0000$ pesos a month to do nothing is not considered "embezzlement of public funds" on his mind this act is an " administrative weakness" .
Man that chick probably gives the best BJ on the island and radhames son is a weak SOB

It's a tightly knit circle. Fernandez probably gets the same BJ.
Fire Segura now if you want to demonstrate that you're serious. Nuria has already shown enough of his guilt and nepotism.

It seems that the President is playing with words again and this time he is trying to get people to concentrate only on those few departments that have fewer opportunities to be corrupt .I notice that in the papers here he makes a distinction between central departments and satellite or decentralised departments and organisations and he admits problems in the non central departments .He does not say what is central and what is decentral. So where do the police who have a history of corruption fit in ? Seems he has not heard of the one bad apple ruining the lot .
To me it was so disappointing that he can not grasp the issue and do something positive

When someone supposedly so educated and supposedly dedicated to his people sits there and tells such lies as this how can anyone believe anything he says. The international community is getting a huge laugh from this blunder. The DR is one of the most notoriously corrupt countries in the world and the corruption is the seed of most of its problems and the leader of the country is saying the corruption is not a major problem here. Statements like that make LF looks like a complete fool either thinking we are not smart enough to realize what is going on or trying to hide his immense corruption through looking too stupid to see it. Either way he looks like a fool.
Not a very good leadership example for the international community leaders to see. The rest of the world thinks we are an island of stupid liars.

"The DR is one of the most notoriously corrupt countries in the world ..."
Quite arguably correct... Is the statement based on percentage of income per capita, the loss ratio of its lenders, what is the criteria...Most African states far exceed any level at any criteria. The poverty levels of most are far below the DR.
The difference is the under-eductaed and vastly more corrupt African leaders are tight lipped and they refuse to expose anything to the press.
Lionel runs a so called democracy that had the US Constitution forced upon it. Thusly, it is the basis and the very instrument that defines "democracy" in the Dominican Republic.
In reality, that document is one that dictates the RIGHTS of all it's citizens....
SO STOP! Endless rhetoric and use YOUR Constitution to effect changes. If every citizen reported all government abuse to every agency, every time...They'd all fight it out and none could ever seek re-election. Shame on the people and shame on the government
