Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- A group of residents of the communities La Vigia, Colonia Japanesa and Los Callejones boycotted since 7 a.m. today the cross border market held Mondays and Fridays in Dajabón, demanding the extradition of the alleged murderer of a man from the community,
The protesters demand that the Haitian citizen Wilson Destine (Chipa or Tipa) -currently being held in the Haiti Police precinct at Wanament- be handed over to Dominican authorities to face charges for yesterday’s murder of the tractor operator Carlos Epinal, 27.
They also demand the suspension of the cross border market for at least one day in respect to the mourning of the youngster’s relatives.
Espinal died yesterday by a bullet wound in the throat, when he chased two men who had stolen his motorcycle, in a border area known as El Callejon de Rafael Cordero.
The group arrived today with clubs, crosses and stones, dispersing the few Haitians who had come to the market and threw the vendors’ merchandise to the ground.
CESFRONT Border and police agents cordoned off the street leading to the Dominican Customs offices to keep the demonstrators from reaching the border crossing and fired tear gas after they ignored orders to halt in the outset.
According to a press release by the Jesuit Service for Migrants and Refugees, the Haitian Police is looking for Jean Batist Piét, the alleged accomplice in the murder.

Border wall is needed to help control the madness!!!
From: Dominican Republic
Like a house of cards that keeps getting blown down before the first floor is even finished X . If a Country as sophisticated and resourceful as the U.S cannot( MORE LIKE WILL NOT) address this problem with Mexico , how can butt-puppets like Clinton who CANNOT remedy the problem in his own country fix the problem at the would be wailing Dominican wall along the Haitian border ? Unification is the hidden agenda of the day for the powers that be and geographical borders and boundries do not help speed up the process.

Well, either this massive flow of immigrants halts, or these tensions will grow nation-wide and will explode into civil war. I give it until 2011 for USSA and/or DR to be having intense internal conflicts. USSA might have some ATF action or martial law, though.

Will grow??? I believe that the civil war has already begun in many small pockets and isolated sectors that the munchkins are prohibited from singing to us about . If the Government allowed the media to unleash the whole truth to the Hatfields and the McCoys on these forums you just very well may have an uprising that only armageddon can stop. Lets pray for the peace of Jerusalem and Hispanola !

brazilenos, I think illegals deserve anything that happens to them. This is not "one" man, there are way more cases besides this one that are happening, that don't receive coverage. Maybe all illegal Dominicans in Puerto Rico should be brought back to DR to replace the illegal Haitians that are going to be deported. People with documents have rights. But to me, the point of this article is to serve as more proof that integration of these two entities is never going to work. For some reason, each country has a border. And believe it or not, countries that are nearby are the ones that have more resentment for each other. Don't give me this "but we are neighbors" crap. The only reason why, say, the Korean people don't hate the Pakistanis is because they have no interaction, but they do not like the Japanese, the Chinese and North Korea, which they do have interaction with

brazilenos ..I am very much on your side and the statements full of hatred, vitriol and injustice that are always made on this subject are sickening to most people who read these comments . In this particular case no one knows the true facts of the case yet people want to judge and make illogical comparisons with other situations ...I am quite confident that in the final judgment day , the gates of Heaven will not be closed any more against a person from Haiti than against a Dominican
From: Dominican Republic
I think of Judeo-Christianity as a way to mentally weaken a population. Making them wussies afraid of killing anyone no matter how much bad they have done to them just because they will not go to heaven. In all honesty, MIGHT MAKES RIGHT.

Stop fostering hate...this will not help anyone. We have two options:
1. Build the wall, control our border and embrace Hipanic culture (distant from Haiti)
2. Promote second language (English or French)..same thing, that will get us closer to Haiti and create the path for the integration of the island.
Although, Most of us are inclined for the first option; second option will prevail por estar de tumba polvo y vende patria con los gringos. It's inevitable.

this is not hate. we are only speaking the truth and being informed of these kinds of acts that are taking place in our country hurts me to the core. when it is these foreigners that come over to our land trespassing and show a total lack of respect and dignity by commiting acts of violence....enough said!!!

My question is, where are all this NGO and other religious organizations that come out in force every time a Dominican apply justice to and "innocent haitian", where are all the trolls that cry racism and proceed to slander my people.
The double standard is in full view for everybody to see, and like always there is no answer from the dominican authorities, I give the haitian government credit, cause when is a haitian that gets wack in DR they come out barking like mad dogs chasing a cat.

From: Dominican Republic
Brazileno before 1985, Dominican did all the work! Dominican also work hard in Spain, PR and EEUU. Don't credit higher salary in DR versus Haiti that forces the Haitian to work in DR to support themselves and their families. This is not an excuse to violate Dominican sovereingty, conduct displacement of the Dominican in jobs, lands, and subsidies, to bring violence to DR, to destroy Dominican environment, etc.!
Whoever is talking about merging the countries and adopting the Creole as a language should be banned for insulting and promoting the destruction of who we are DOMINICAN!

Brazilians you are correct again it is only that someone has heard stories from their grandmother who heard them from her grandmother that Haitians are bad people and want to invade the DR and did many horrible things in the past and Dominicans are all saints and do no wrong to anyone
From: Dominican Republic
Sad, trully sad. When will our people wake up to civilized light. People kill people for many reasons, it's never something good to take a life. But according to statistics the majority of the killings in this country are not being done by the Haitians but by our own. We never seem to stand up to protest against the 90% of violent crimes committed in the DR by Dominicans but when some Haitian commits a violent act we make an uproar (10% of violent crimes in the entire DR are done by Haitians/check the statistics in the website of "Secretaria Estado de Interior y Policia"). This is called hypocrisy and bigotry. It only shows that our problem is not with what was done, our problem is the fact that it was a Haitian that did it. We give a cold shoulder when our people are killing each other like maniacs as if those acts are okay. Don't get me wrong I am not here defend Haitians, I am here to show that we need to stand against the Dominican on Dominican killings that are soo high in level.

In a civilized society, when a murder occurs, the crimimal justice system has to take charge and not mobs. Mobs cannot be looking for an individual who allegedly commit a crime. It's the job of the police. Too many times mobs of Dominicans want to go look for Haitians whenever a crime is committed even if they have nothing to do with it. That's stupid and must stop. If a Dominican kills an Americian in the U.S., would it be right for American mobs to go on a rampage of the Dominican community in Washing\ton Heighhts killing all Dominicans they can find on their path? That's barbaric. It's high titme that such barbarism stops in the DR.
