SAN CRISTOBAL, Dominican Republic.- The trial against the 25 military and civilians charged with the execution style murder of seven Colombians near the city Ojo de Agua, Baní, Peravia province (south) in an alleged rip off of 1,300 kilos of cocaine, was rescheduled for 9 a.m., August 7.
Peravia Instruction judge Leonardo Antonio Cruz ruled for continuance, when two of the implicated in the case appeared in court without defense lawyers, as heavy security including Swat agents were posted at all entrances.
The defendants Joaquin Perez Feliz and Felix Mora Terrero asked the judge to appoint counsels, alleging that they don’t have the money to pay one, for which the Office of Peravia Public Defender will be notified in the case.
Both the prosecution and the defense Lawyers of the accused Edward Mayobanex Montero Vargas and Jose Luis Montas (Duro Motors) motioned against the suspension, complaining that it delays the process.
After four suspensions, the accused have requested the start of the trial as soon as possible, alleging that they need to prove their innocence, but their lawyers say "all this jeopardizes them."
