Dajabon.– Dominican and Haitian authorities sagreed to strengthen their common border after violent incidents in the
area left one Haitian and one Dominican injured and a member of border
security with contusions from being struck.
Haitian
police aided by members of the U.N. Stabilization Mission in the
Western Hemisphere’s poorest country, known as Minustah, cordoned off
the border to keep it under surveillance.
At the same time the
Dominican Republic’s Specialized Border Security Corps, or Cesfront,
doubled its watch on points along the border where undocumented
Haitians and smuggled goods most often enter the country.
Cesfront
announced the measure following an outbreak of protests in the
community of La Vigia in the northwestern province of Dajabon over the
death of Dominican Carlos Espinal, 34, for which two Haitians are
blamed.
From: United States
the outbreaks of protests are only normal for a people that have been violated. we allow haitians to conduct buisness in our country, and this is the crap that we receive. just to think that we don't even have cross border solidarity and yet with all of the haitians emptying into the republic imagine the future of dominicanidad. its enough to make one want to cry.
From: United States, Brooklyn
I cry with you Mirabal, cuz who can expect to guard a 200 km frontier with only 500 men... Cesfront is a joke... The army should be cut in half and the other half be enlisted to cesfront;10,000 can defenately guard the border!

Dominicans must take actions into their own hands, sounds bad but your president is not willing to lift a finger to deal with situation like the cement plant.
I for one think that he is involved with all those projects.

Brazilian... or should i say Haitiano, Unification was once possible, but you haitian dogs kept the differences alives between dominicans which often in those day you Dogs referred to as Spaniards. Its in the History book... so do me a favor and before you start chanting the first fart that comes throught your head DO A LITTLE READING BEFORE HAND!
Unification did not worked then, when we were poorer, outnumbered, and defesenless, it will not work to day!! GET IT THROUGHT YOUR THICK HAITIAN SKULL

Does any one really think that Haiti would ever want to become part of the DR ..I imagine about 1 in 100,,Haiti has a proud history and I have little doubt that very soon with all the aid coming into that country they will able to rebuild their economy ..what arrogance to think they would want to be part of this corrupt country when they have a good opportunity to be on an equal footing and independent. And what nonsense to think that this country with no army , navy or airforce and few arms would think of invading the DR . Unification is totally out of the question but unlike allumeuseGeneroso, I am a believer in free speech and the right of every one to express an opinion.
From: Dominican Republic, la Romana
and Carlos Franco ..the reason that unification will not work now is not because it could not work 100 years ago but it is simply that the timing is not right and at present it would lead to horrific deaths on both sides. There is no need for unification but when Haiti is economically stronger and their wonderful soils have been made fertile again and there is work there, I hope that people from both countries will be able to cross the border freely without the need for any visas

Told you guys this was going to happen, and is its only a weak start for what is to come later. No country in the world can stand and accommodate, seeking refuge from another country, more than 20% of their unplanned population explosion, as illegal residents demanding services, bringing nothing except illiteracy, disease, hunger and unemployment.

here we go again talking about events that happened before anyone here was born ..and funny isn´t it that you can cross from Germany into France and France into Germany with minimum problems even though those two countries fought horrific wars ,much more recently, in which millions were killed .. Funny also how the genetic background of so many people in both Haiti and DR is predominantly from former African slaves mixed with either Spanish or French blood and yet some people here can not even see any thing good in any one from Haiti ..Just so many old imaginary shadows and no positive outlook for the future co operation between DR and Haiti

My friend Ricardolito,
Allow me to remind our friend Carlosfranco that the only ones who have the upper hand in both my country and yours are not the genuine Haitians and Dominicans, but relatively new comers who managed to grab all the land and the wealth of the island and leave the people in relative poverty. Arent't your people still trying to cross the treacherous Mona canal to seek a better life in Puerto Rico? Aren't mine still dying at see trying to reach Florida?
No my friend, as Ricardolito has put it so well, we have had our differences and it is time now to live in peace and save this island from foreign predators and let it genuine people enjoy it. Besides, it was not a negro government that invaded the Dominican and annexed it it was the mulatto Jean Pierre Boyer who did, and that is the reason why he treated you like a colony because there were more blacks than white in your side at that time, and there still more black there. Check history and you'll see the light.

Listen, when you have a country outside of Africa that is still 90% African you will always have issues.Africans in Haiti suffered one of the worst times during slavery by the French. They freed themselves and only tried to do the same for it's brothers and sisters in other country's. i agree it was wrong, Haiti should of United with the DR in the 1800s to become a more secure nation, but this did not happen.
there will always be prejudice, hate, foul rumors, and just about anything negative from racist country's like the US, France, England, Canada and everybody will follow the powers, because of this Revolution. This Revolution only created, hatred, jealousy, invy, lies and destruction from other country's into Haiti. Haiti will always be this way because of there success against the French, British and Spanish troops. Look at Mexico, success,Revolution against the white man, and all that I ever here about Mex. is negativity, and shame from other spainsh people. www.willielynch.co

hey, glado there is no need to be on fire. this is simply a discussion. Hatian's will never rise again. There is no Love for this country. it is what it is. The US spreads lies about Haiti so no one will visit. tourism is affected. the Europeans,Canada and the US will make sure that the only knowledge that is ever to be taught about Haiti, is voodo, how poor and dirty the island and so on. They are ashamed. the US does not even mention it was haiti who helped them get there Indepednce in the south. Its a shame because no one really knows the history. The WHITE man burned the books, killed the doctors, lawyers, philosophers. and the land and removed Haiti from civilization, because they can. They created this so Negros in other country' s will never be able to rise against them, and here you are fighting against the DR. No, everyone should be against the real forces. and DR don't sell yourselves for a piece of bread. the white man to will play you.

Trujillo? Is this the same guy the killed thousands of Haitians and Dominicans that appeared to be Haitian? Go talk to all the Dominicans who had thousands of their family members mistakenly killed by this fool. While you are at, go talk to those millions of dominicans who were living in dirt poverty during his terms of president. While him, his family and friends drained millions of dollars out of the country.
Trujillo is burning in hell where he needs to be.

If a wall was to be built to keep the Haitians out ,as it was in California? Has it worked? No, willl it ever work there as it didn't in East Berlin? I am Dominican 100%,but the fact is if we try to keep
the Haitians out ,who is going to do the manual labor in DR ? Dominicans don't work in sugar fields or construction The latest is Dominican leasing (conucos) to Haitians for a fee while they flee illegaly to USA and enroll in medicaid and section 8. So they collect from both ends witout working. The island will be HAITI's in a so call piecefull invasion, if this keeps up.
I don't think Santana was wrong nor Trujillo by expelling these people since they foresaw what was to happen.Santana annexed the Republic to Spain for which lots of historians critizied, tried to bring back the white re-colonizer,Trujillo extended 100,000 visas to German & Autrian Jews, was not so much to whitenized the nation as to be forgiven by the league of nations of his Haitian's astrocity.
