Santo Domingo. – Environment minister Jaime David Fernández on Monday reiterated his defense of la construction of a cement plant in the community Gonzalo, Monte Plata province (east) near Los Haitises National Park.
The official also reiterated that the project isn’t within the area of Los Haitises as many sectors affirm. "I’d be the first to oppose it if it was determined that it was within the territory of Los Haitises National Park."
Fernandez’s statements comes just minutes before the postponement for next Monday of a hearing on the Environment Ministry’s measures which bans the construction of of a cemetery next to North Mirador Park.
The company Memorial Garden asked the National District Arbitration Court for five days to know the legal status of the organizations which support the Environment Ministry’s opposition to the project.
A group of community leaders were standing by outside the courthouse to show their support for Environment’s position.
