Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic.- Guarded by National Police, the military and Metropolitan Police agents, hundreds of farmers began a pilgrimage to the National Palace Monday morning, the latest in growing demonstrations across the country by diverse groups to demand everything from an end to the blackouts to road repairs.
Today’s protesters, who contrary to the latest strikers peacefully demand a series of works in the 5-province region, set off at 6 p.m. from the municipality Yerba Buena, with the support of Hato Mayor community groups, who joined the pilgrimson the 115 kilometer route, slowing traffic on the Hato Mayor-San Pedro road.
Representatives from Higüey, La Romana, San Pedro, Miches, El Seibo and Guaymate said they would join the protesters at the Eastern Motorway, in San Pedro at noon today.
On Friday a group of cross-bearing protesters were stopped by police just three blocks from the National Palace, and threatened to stage a hunger strike right on the Mexico avenue.

Its about time these Dominicans start protesting about things that are important instead of some crazy Dominican who neglected his kids. A person who thought more about his bike than a job.

As in the past, LF will make a couple of visits and make a whole bunch of promises that he has no intention of fulfilling and the protests will stop.
By the way, how come the press in reporting the meeting of the PLD members who want their chance to to rob us blind (including R.segura and D. Medina)mention WAS made about Jaime Fernandez not being there, but there was was no mention of the First Lady. Is her nomination planned as a surprise?

The tried and true, time-proven method to bring about change.
Worked for Mohandas Ghandi, Martin Luther King and his name sake, Martin Luther. Heck, it even works for those hated urban transportation unions.
High time that the populace rises against overt corruption, viral ineptness, cronyism and aggregate of everything that's vile in your run-of-the mill 3rd world government. Keep marching on and bring corruption down to its knees and get rid of these charlatans.....make them ride small yolas across the Mona passage, making sure they carry some lettuce and avocados so the shark can enjoy some roughage with their meat.
Rise and precipitate change and improve life and future of the citizenry.
Good first step.......keep on marching on and may your strength grow exponentially to the millions!
Wish I could be there with you!
Worthy cause; God speed!

Worked for Mohandas Ghandi,
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Ghandi was a pawn.
A half a billion Hindis rising up in armed insurrection scared the crap out of the Brits. So they just made "peace" with the pedophile in pajamas (Yes he was!) to appear they interested in the people.
India was burning but the Brits were able to direct the press coverage to that lovable Ghandi.
England got rid of an ugly mess and Nehru got his Fiefdom.......
All they had to do was wait for the power on non-violence to reach its inevitable conclusion......"BANG" instant hero of the people.

anthonyC...why would anyone raise this old totally unproven accusation against Ghandi in this page and why give your own totally ludicrous potted version of the independence of India here ..is all so irrelevant and inaccurate ......that is unless all the diaries and authorized histories are totally wrong .

Ricardolito,
The cubanito also believes Sarah Palin should be given the nuclear launch codes. So take his "comments" in that context.

why have these protesters not been subjected to massive attacks of tear gas that was given to the small number of doctors who protested ..seems like there is discrimination here .
yes josean ,,you are correct to point out the lack of credibility of anthonyC so other readers will not take too much offence

Social revolution should not be viewed in such disgusting vulgarities!
Peaceful revolution. It took years in the US to end the bebacle of the Viet Nam war... it may yet end the useless slaughter in the middle east. But i don't suppose that a few million Americans felt the pressure and authorship of Mohatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King or any other social leader to get it done. The citizens of the US had been hidden from the truth for over 7 years before they toppled the power structure and the commercial interests who profited from the blood letting of American men.
Dominicans are faced with an almost identical situation... a lack of truth and politicians who forget that the world is finally transparent and the word travels instantly.
The price of freedom is a tall figure.
Will Dominicans sit and await bloodletting in their streets? Or will they be talked out of their constitutional rights.
Get the work done.

March, negotiate and behave responsibly, YES.
Know that it may take quite a while to get it done. But it is the entire populations that suffers and it will take the entire population to speak in that one VERY LOUD VOICE...NO MORE!

anthonyC you actually believe all the nonsense written on the internet ?? come on If Ghandi had committed the crime you accuse him of , he would never have been the hero that he was
From: Dominican Republic, Puerto Pata
Unless Ghandi arises from the dead and speaks in Spanish... you dilute the value of this discussion. The future is born everyday... the past is the fodder of people like yourself.... Live today for today. Live in yesterday and die in the morning....
Certainly, the past contains valuable lessons, but you apply a different standard.... If Ghandi had the Internet, it never would have taken him so long...Wake Up Amigo! The lessons are valid the application is antiquated!
