Santo Domingo.- The doctors and nurses who occupied the Labor Ministry offices Monday to demand a wage increase are being held in the National District Prosecutor’s Office, after they were evicted by force around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

In the next few hours Labor minister Max Puig is expected to file a complaint against the trespassing doctors, aimed at keeping the doctors’ guild (CMD) from continuing the practice of occupying important Government agencies.

The doctors are in the 4th floor of the Ciudad Nueva courthouse which has been cordoned off by Police, and two nurses were reportedly hospitalized for medical attention.

With this action of jailing the leaders of CMD, the doctors should call a general strike. Stop working and see how receptive the Gov. Official will be to address their issues... This is CRAP !!

The doctors should all stop working until the riots make them notice. It always seems to take riots to get noticed.

This is a great country if you are rich and part of the Oligarchy or the professional corrupt class divided into the three segments we call PLD PRD PRSC.

Here you have underpaid doctors and nurses being arrested by equally underpaid police and military defending the interests of the super rich who keep exploiting them at will and pay them below subsistence wages.

Lie-onel Fernandez you should be very proud of yourself, what a statesman, what great progress you have brought to the country!

This is the only country I have ever visited that does not support or honor health workers. I wonder if Minister Puig understands that at one or other given time, a doctor or a nurse will take care of him, or his loved ones. All around the world, doctors and nurses are some of the most respected members of society - here, they are treated with such disrespect and are required to work long hours - for the face of the rich.
