Santo Domingo.- The Supreme Court based is ruling to extradite Ernesto Bienvenido Guevara (Maconi) on alleged crimes different from those relating to the trafficking of 1,387 kilos of cocaine the United States attributes to Quirino Paulino.

The ruling states that the decision to extradite Guevara “El Cuñao” (the brother-in-law) stems from charges of conspiracy to introduce drugs to U.S. territory from 2002 to 2004.

Although the 1,387 kilos of cocaine were seized from Paulino on December 18, 2004, the high Court’s decision clarifies that among the evidence filed by the U.S. authorities and the indictment states that Guevara and others conspired to introduce and distribute five kilos of various substances, including cocaine, in a period prior to December, 2004.

In that regard Justice minister Radhames Jiménez yesterday affirmed that the Supreme Court’s decision was “correct” and that United States extradition request though its embassy was well based.

Although he didn’t specify when Guevara will be escorted to New York, the official said it’s a matter of days.

Reciprocity

Jimenez hailed the Dominican-U.S. authorities’ reciprocity, noting that as a result of the agreement Wendy Polanco González was extradited back to this country yesterday, to face charges in the death of her husband and of having fled abroad.
