More protests, more excuses.

Santo Domingo.- More than 30 business, labor and  civil society organizations demanded yesterday in the Palace of Justice exemplary punishment against the people implicated in corruption, and warn that the country is becoming unsafe.

Manuel Cabrera, representing the Herrera Industries Association, prior to delivering a statement to Justice minister Radhamés Jiménez, demanded action against the acts of corruption government officials have allegedly committed.

Copies of the document were also delivered to the Supreme Court, the Accounts Chamber and to the presidents of the legislative chambers.

Cabrera demanded that the Accounts Chamber implement more energetic actions to force compliance of the law, “because the business class has decided not to accept more explanations from officials who are accused of irregularities in the administration of taxpayer money.”

In the same action, Jose Ceballos, of the organization Ciudad Alternativa, demanded that the Government and the law enforcement agencies to assume their responsibility and respond to the social outcry that demands an end to corruption and transparency in the handling of public funds.

Whereas Roman Batista, of the Citizen Forum, said they decided to visit the Justice Ministry to demand a true program to prevent and punish government corruption, because in his view it’s not possible that despite being in the 21st century the country still lacks transparent procedures on government spending.

Denunciations must be investigated

The two page statement demands that the Anti-Corruption Department investigate and file charges against the officials implicated in acts of corruption.

Stealing Beach Sand: When will the DR catch on to this environmental crime? I look to see a copycat in the DR within the next 6 months. Th only difference will be the Resort/Hotel owner will have a "DECRETO PRESIDENCIAL" duely paid for in full (in his hands). Therefore, no crime.

I feel that this kind of problem will continue until the Dominican government establishes a National Civil Service. Where the Civil service would stay on when Presidents come and go. If so done, with good oversights set up. You could bet that the two bit politicions that get in every four years would keep close watch over the Civil servants. Then there would be carrier government servants that would want to keep their jobs and not see a jail cell. The big benifit is that everyone would know what is going on when you go to a government office, you wouldn't get a bewildered look, or get ignored completely! They would know their job. If not they get fired that simple.

The young people are protesting, and that’s indicate that the old leadership will vanish soon if the government does not act according to the action that the people are requesting. There are a lot of abuse in Fernandez’s administration even though we as Dominicans we can not blame Leonel Fernandez for all the corruption, but he is the head of the State, and he will be appointed as the main member of corruption. The only way to fight corruption is getting together the civil services, and the government, and punishes those politicians that outlaw the constitution of the Dominican Republic. Otherwise, corruption and the abuse will be in the Dominican society forever.
