josean,,you may have missed the information that a close relation of Leonel was somehow receiving money though I think he was in the USA so Leonel will do nothing ..Although I have been a supporter of Leonel mainly because he has worked hard to attract foreign investment I became very very disillutioned after the appalling Presidential pardons and now his empty promises to have zero tolerance on corruption..if he decided to take a strong stand this country would go ahead leaps and bounds.
I just do not understand why the Dpca is taking so long ...guess the water is being muddied in the meantime and much evidence lost

a Dominican friend of mine said to me on Sunday last that the Dominican Republic will never change, because it is exactly what it was meant to be. it is a virtual fiefdom, with a bunch of criminals presiding over a destitute mass of people, who are in dire straits. the education system will never improve, because it keeps the masses in their places as consumers, voters, and cheap labor. as long as the highlight of their lives is to go to the car wash every 15th and 30th of the month, engorge themseles with liquor, dance the night away, impregnate and get pregnant, all is well with the ruling classes. the people see corruption as something to emulate, and therefore do not rise up against thugs like Segura, because they do not see his actions as being unprincipled. they are like the poorest of Americans, who support tax breaks for the richest. why do they do it, you ask? because they all believe that they will soon win the lottery, and do not want to fall victim to tax increases.

similarly, my friend opines, the long grey line of Dominican humanity fantasises about the day when they will be in a position to avail themselves of similar unjust enrichment, and, therefore, see nothing wrong with the likes of Radhames.

If anyone believes that there will be any type of prosecution from this......I'd like to interest you in some real estate in Santiago....which, of course, you may or may not own by the time you finish paying for it.

corruption here is hard to prove and harder to bring to justice....specially when everyone at the top has their hands in the cookie jar.... i bet they'll decide on 'its just poor business management, nothing corrupt about paying 40 friends and family just a bad business decision' so he's not guilty on corruption.
