Eernesto B. Guevara may be escorted aboard the DC-9 to the U.S.

Zoom Picture

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Las Americas International Airport (AILA) authorities expect Ernesto Bienvenido Guevara (Maconi) could be extradited this afternoon and escorted to New York aboard the same plane that’ll bring 81 deportees, mostly drug traffickers from the United States.

A Drugs Control Agency source quoted by newspaper diariolibre.com in that terminal said the extradition of Guevara, still being in San Cristobal’s Najayo prison, may coincide with the arrival of the group of deportees the United States sends every 15 days aboard a flight guarded by U.S. Marshals and DEA and FBI agents.

AILA security agents await the 81 Dominican deportees from the United States, 53 of those convicted of drug trafficking and the others for homicides, assaults, forgery, fraud, among other crimes.

The Immigration Agency and U.S. embassy officials said the group is expected to arrive at the terminal 2 p.m., on a DC-9 airplane chartered by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, which could return with Guevara.

Extradition, the drug traffickers’ boogieman

Monday morning the Presidency’s Advisor on Drugs affirmed that the region’s drug traffickers fear only being extradited to the U.S. where they may face life sentences.

Marino Vinicio Castillo said the drug traffickers in their own country feel safe and have the money and power to enjoy a life of impunity. “Drug traffickers here and in other countries of the region have the silver to enjoy their lives and the lead to impose fear.”

You are right Gregory many outsiders are selling their property or just giving it away because they are sick of the crime.

tdown, you are correct on that observation. I am one of those (DR perm. res.) living in the DR, that got fed up and sold everything and left. I found it just not worth the hassel factor to put up with all the BS. That was after 12 years of living in the DR. Thank God I had an option to leave. Sadly, most do not.

Gregory, tdown and Juango,

What is wrong with you? Are you not amongst the "second happiest people in the world"? DR just got this title which means your comments and observations cannot possibly be true-or are they? Certainly, both sets of observations cannot be simultaneously true, and I am inclined to side with you gentlemen, as my parents seem reluctant at present to live in DR for reasons you all have clearly stated.

Anyway, I suppose those 81 deportees are just coming home to take their rightful share of happiness.

At that rate, 2 flights/month X 80 wiseguys= 160 wiseguys a month x 12 =1920 a year.

How many Domincan WG's are there in the US prison system?

10 years from today, about 20,000 of them will be back here teaming up with the locals.

Scary.

FredC,

Fungulistan, and Roma in particular, is great [oh, the Roman women!!!!] but incredibly expensive. A couple of days ago spent 18 Euros for two espressos and two small cookies! I can't tell you what I've paid for cab rides and limo rentals....I feel like I could have gotten a good used Toyota for the total. Spain, Greece and Turkey were much more affordable, however.

In Italy, I've had much better food in the north [Torino and Milano] than in Rome, and infinitely much less expensive.

Hey, who knows, with all the progress DR is making relative to "compressed natural gas" usage, I should soon be able to visit on the expense account, too. Man, that would be just great.

Imagine, I will be just as happy as those people who got DR to rank "second happiest people in the world". If you believe that, then there is a parcel in Santiago, "Ensanche Caonabo", sector "Los Platanitos" [BTW, comes with a light blue Honda Civic] that you could buy very inexpensively.

LOL

FreC,

Staying on Via Venetto, across from US Embassy at "Ambasciatori Palace" hotel. Marvelous place, but a bit too pricey. Classy restaurants in area, but definitely not intended for commoners.

As for the wine, I've been buying a couple of bottles each night and bringing them over to Fontana de Trevi, so I could watch the girls and enjoy the festive atmosphere. It's either that or Piazza di
Espagna or Piazza Novona. These are all great places, and you can hang around into early morning. So far, I've met many interesting people, especially the tall Italian brunette with the big brown eyes and the charming mannerism and smile. Man, she really generates great temptations.

I hope to god that those being brought back do not end up hitting the streets to commit the same crimes that they were deported for.

what we need is a guillotine right at the airport so that as these scumbags get off the plane we kill them right away to avoid them infecting the rest of the population. We need some leadership with some balls to handle this business correctly.
