Super Tucano, Marino V. Castillo
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Presidency’s Adviser on drugs on Wednesday admitted that the country has had difficulties in the war on narcotics trafficking, for the lack of funds and instruments, and revealed that the government has found obstacles to bring the Super Tucano airplanes acquired in Brazil.
Marino Vinicio (Vincho) Castillo, although he didn’t specify the alleged obstacles, affirmed that the intercept airplanes should’ve been here by now. “Those that we want to buy as agreed in Brazil are being obstructed, we have difficulties and the lack of logistical support by the U.S. Government during the 2000 to 2005 period, with ambassador Hans Hertell and the George W. Bush Administration remains. It was a regrettable example of the disinterest in the war against that evil.”
In that regard, the official revealed that even strange implications were seen, perhaps a deliberate complicity, “to make us reach the condition of a failed State or a narco-State such as what has occurred in Haiti.”
Castillo said however that the situation is different now, because during that period Herrera Airport was a sort of narcotics terminal. “The traffic from the airport at Fort Lauderdale was open, almost commercial and it’s enough to examine the files and read the statements of the convicted pilots, De la Cruz and Madera,” he said, regarding the two Dominicans arrested in Florida with cocaine hidden in the plane they flew.
He said that’s the reason narcotics traffickers must now arrive in the dark of night, make dangerous landings and discard the planes or even torch them,
“There’s been shootouts, deaths, the topic is different, but what happens is that when the narcos take over a situation social, the go very far, acquiring wealth, participating in politics, in business, gain a foothold and become a sort of parallel State and that must be rebuked.”
Castillo also affirmed that the authorities’ efforts in the war on drugs are valid and serious, adding that that once the fighters and radars arrive drug airdrops will be reduced to almost zero.

WHY build overpass when we can clean up a little....... No momey to fight the war on drugz. We need to talk to ACCOUNTING, we just recieved USD160mil. for road contruction. I'm sure that plane shown don't cost more than USD500,000 and radar equipment I'll spend 2mil on that. There we have it . Presidente Bobby Jo will take money from the raod construction and buy 4 planes at 500K a piece and two radar systems that leaves just over USD150mil for construction which we'll make the companies that owe, pay for the work.... I just kept USD 150mil. Lets put in a CD acount and BORROW against it . PROBLEM SOLVED......... ;-)

No money, No planes ! That is how it works folks. Perhaps Embraer Brazil (Tucano mfg) will accept an "IOU" from the DR, just like many employees in the Great Pelosi State of CA are doing today with their employers.......... WTF !!!

Let's try this...the DR is supposedly a soveriegn nation...with a government. Stand on your own two feet, work your own business and stop the dope coming into your country.
Here's how to do it. BEHEAD the government officials, military and police who are caught involved with the drugs. Simply put a block in el Parque de Indepencia and every Friday at sunset, cut off a corrupt officials head. Violence is the only thing Dominicans understand apparantly, talking and loans has not woked.
The sooner the DR and the people of the DR quit blaming every other country in the world for their problems, the sooner life will change.....

The bigger is better idea always sounds good then flops.
Why not step up naval patrols on swift boats 3 miles along the Southern coast, with a UH1 Helicopters as back up if needed.
Nothing like a short burst of 50 cal. MG fire with AP incendiary rds. will get any body's attention and hopefully put a dent in the Drug smuggling trade.
The thought of the DR facing a Crack drug type epidemic and the stepped up crime it would add to the DR should wake any body up.
Besides your utilizing local Naval and air support all while being cost effect.
The question will always be....How bad does the DR Gov. wants to tackle the drug problem.

I find all this rather hard to believe ..I do not believe that in this very small island country that the various agencies do not know who the drug dealers are and how they move the drugs and how they move their money .He is probably correct that the planes and boats arrive at night but I have read that there is now surveillance equipment here so why is it so difficult to pick upon the radar planes coming here. The ports seem to be the major problem now .

Like I have said before if the United States government was interested in stopping the drug trade/ trafficking they would post a career on the southern part of DR. In-between the Dominican R. Colombia and Venezuela.
But then again I am more then sure that it is the US government that is responsible for the drug trade.

The freaking U.S. is focused on terrorism (giviing us antiterrorism equipment) but nothing on the war on drugs! We must condemn the U.S. for allowing the drug saturation of the Caribbean and for allowing the Caribbean to defend itself from these interlopers!

AllumeuseGeneroso,
The problem is so deep rooted that it would take Days to explain. I'll cut it short.
The U.S is only part of the problem.
The DR only finds around 6% of the Drug flow on a good Year.
The Growers, Smugglers, Enforcers and Dealers are always steps ahead in finding elaborate and creative ways to continue there trade, MONEY TALKS. Find the root of the problem and there you'll find the solution.
Education + Law Enforcement + Prevention + no drug users = no Drug problem.
If the DR Gov. would start by do it's share of serous Law enforcement you would probably not have reached a boiling point.
The answer comes from with in.
Ask your self... why aren't I part of the Drug problem ?
What made me not use or abuse Drugs ?
See with out realizing it, WE ALL have the power, knowledge and nohow.
Knowledge does nobody any good.....IF WERE NOT WILLING TO SHARE IT.
Key Root Problem.....GROOVY 1960's and "I CAN'T GET NO....SATISFACTION" .
I'll explain more.

"admitted that the country has had difficulties in the war on narcotics trafficking, for the lack of funds and instruments"
The primary difficulty is President fernandez and his corrupt cronies that he protects. His re-election was funded by drug money and he refused to bite the hand that feeds him. While the good people of the DR continue to suffer with major social and economic issues the President doesn't have the integrity, fortitude or honor to protect those he is suppose to serve. How long can they take this clown?
