MIAMI.- Marine Exploration, Inc. and joint venture partner Hispaniola Ventures, LLC recently located a previously undiscovered shipwreck on the North West Reef of the Silver Bank, Dominican Republic.
The artifacts recovered during the proofing excavations have proved to date the ship between 1725 and 1745. Burt Webber, the Company’s treasure hunter was interviewed about the find.
“An exciting video of Marine Exploration divers working the wreck area uncovering the ship’s anchors and priceless items appeared on FOX TV News and CBS TV News in Palm Beach along with Webber’s interview,” Business Wire said.
Mark Goldberg, CEO Marine Exploration notes, “We have additional coverage pending through a major worldwide TV news service, another South Florida TV station, and widely circulated newspapers in the New York market. Finding sunken treasure is a fantasy many dream about. We are doing it and at the same time sharing the excitement with others.”
Marine Exploration, Inc. and joint venture partner Hispaniola Ventures, LLC headed by Webber expect to continue the surveys and anticipate locating and recovering historic shipwrecks with valuable artifacts and treasure.
“Working under exclusive contract with the Dominican Republic, the Company has plans in place to pursue multiple notable shipwrecks in Dominican Republic territorial and jurisdictional waters,” the report says.

This discovery has been scuttlebutt for many months now, and the treasures involved in gold and silver appear to be the largest ever discovered in our territorial waters.
No wonder the Brits wanted us to sign over our sea rights over to them, and tried to bully us many times into doing it.
Modern day pirates and nations are always on the lookout for sunken treasures, that they can lay their claim on, I just wonder when the treasure is made public, and sold for cash, how much of the proceeds the ordinary Dominican will benefit from, after all the other pirates take their share.

It will simply be stolen by the ruling class, and nothing will ever be heard of it again.

Uhhhhhh, not quite, it's probably a merchant ship. To think this find is bigger than Webber's location of the Concepcione is "scuttlebutt"....this is nothing more than a re-print of a press release last month in an attempt to find investors.
When they bring up the loot and prove it's not painted lead MAYBE we'll believe it...until then, this is just like the "river stones" project....see ya at la Cafeteria de Penalba for the free Bohemias he promised.

What claim does the "ordinary Dominican" have? I will tell you...They have none.
The ship belonged to Spain. It was found by a private company after years of research and work.
I am sick of these "holier than thou" a-holes who want to take away hard earn wealth in the name of what they call fairness.

Not unless they are forced to give it to her. Webber is already paying the government for the right to work in their waters PLUS a 50/50 split of what is found....His operation is a boost to the economy where ever the boat is docked....it requires fuel, food and supplies. Not to mention his highly skilled crack team of "pirates" pillaging and plundering the local establishments....three of them are a "knock off the old block" if you know what I mean...

You've better go back through posting trail and address your comments to author of quoted information: The Professor-Generoso.
My contribution to the posting was just the last line: "It will simply be stolen by the ruling class, and nothing will ever be heard of it again."
If you have a bone to pick with my comment, go ahead, but please credit the appropriate source in your rebuttal.
BTW, I do believe the enlightened Generoso will deal with your comments eloquently and apropriately. I can't wait to see how this evolves.

DT editor,
How much longer can we continue to endure "AnthonyC's" vulgar and offensive language against other contributors who abide by the rules, while his rantings and personal attacks go on with impunity? The man should be seriously admonished or altogether banned from forum.
Here is latest example in response to statement by Generoso [a valued contributor]: "The ship belonged to Spain. It was found by a private company after years of research and work.

The treasures if found were all stolen by Spain in the first place. Does that automatically give them rights of ownership if not who are the rightful owners? If we want to get to the nitty gritty, then lets compensate the descendents of the indegenous people who slaved and died trying to extract gold. How about Dominican territorial waters, does that mean anything or just screw the DR gov't? Do we only reward initiative and entrepenuership and the hell with everyone else? Is this survival of the fittest or what? is it finders keepers, losers weepers? If we have so many sunken ships in our territorial waters, why does not the DR gov't create a program to eliminate outsiders rights to claim sunken treasures. Why do we need to depend on foreign expertise to explore our back yard? For Christ sake, we already have a talented Dominican egyptologist who recently made a major discovery, why can't we not do the same with our historical artifacts. Why are we so happy with Taino pottery?
From: United States
The DR again repeats history. We are doing it all over again. Just like the Indisns who traded gold for beads. We are giving up claims to priceless sunken treasures in exchange for crums. Let's just keep our archeologist busy digging for Taino pottery.

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Following the news of its latest shipwreck discovery, Marine Exploration, Inc. - News) confirms that the R/V Hispaniola is departing Santo Domingo for the waters north of the Dominican Republic. Based on new information, Burt Webber has cut shore leave short and the team has been called back to the ship to immediately leave to pursue a wreck in the area where we have new information which corroborates historical testimony given nearly 300 years ago by Captain Swinstead. Says Webber, “My sights are set on recovering the silver bars which were seen on the bank and have been lost for over 300 years.”

Burts only track record is that he found a Treasure Galleon after he was given the log book off the "Henry" the original salvage vessel with explicit directions to the wreck, and that was 3 decades ago.
His boat The "RV Hispaniola" has left the dock once in almost a year!
The only two people he had on his crew with any experience, jumped ship because the haven't been paid in 4 months!
There has never been any treasure ships lost in the Navidad Banks. The geology is a giveaway if you look at a chart.
The SilverBanks are where the wrecks are (hence the name) But Burt does not have a lease there.
Burt needs a stock push to survive. His grip on his boat, crew and sanity depend upon it!
Lastly if Burt finds treasure,,,,, No-one will be more surprised than Burt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone have info about Webber allegedly "pirating" the ship he's on from the owner. The expedition was supposed to leave Miami after a two week outfitting period back in early '08, but apparently the promised funds from MEXP didn't come in. Meanwhile Webber puts on a media dog-and-pony-show which results in some issues with the ship being flagged by authorities. Result: ship goes into dry dock, owner can't pay dry dock fees, boatyard takes ship and sells it to Webber on the cheap (i.e., as alleged) ? Please enlighten me, because I'd like to know who I am invested with.
