SANTO DOMINGO.- The popular groups in the Alternative Social Forum (FSA) yesterday announced a nationwide strike for 12 hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 4.

They said the strike is just the starting point for a more prolonged struggle for various demands, including a general wage increase, lower fuel prices, indictments against those accused of corruption and recovery of the national patrimony.

FSA spokesman Victor Gerónimo said after the strike they’ll give the Government one month to respond to their demands, or otherwise stage a longer walkout. He said they’ll head walkouts in several towns on the 12th and a march to Congress on the 16th.

He added that the FSA supports the doctors grouped in the CMD in their effort to get a wage increase.

I wish their demands were more sensible...the price of fuel is not too bad in DR compared to many other countries ...I wish they were striking against the constant disruption of electricity , the lack of clean water , health care and education ..and then I would walk with them

Why is it neccessary for a group of banditos, possibly more disruptive that the various government agencies, to make demands that serve no useful purpose except to shut down shops, gas stations and the like..!.

"I wish their demands were more sensible...the price of fuel is not too bad in DR compared to many other countries ...I wish they were striking against the constant disruption of electricity , the lack of clean water , health care and education .."
Hard to disagree...

It's still more effective to organize the people who are most affected. The elctorate,....Mass marching and peaceful always protest grabs the attention of the always tilted media.

Ricardolito,

Good input.

I say.....
Smart move by the Strikers by adding other issues for National support....By then LF should be in Town to "ADDRESS THIS MESS" before it turns into a real disaster.

BASTA,

I hope I don't sound Tong Twisting, but....

Spoken like a real Champ, all the way from Falcon Falls, TX. USA......This time.

Do you even realize what your even talking about ?
Words are even more powerful when not directed.

Ever wonder what a full fledge REVOLUTION could result in ?

And at who's expense ?

I like to think Dominican's in the DR have kool heads because as always in the end, kool Heads always prevail.

I'll share this with you & ALL....
I only hope and pray Dominican's in the DR choose the Ballet over a REVOLUTION that could end with Blood & Bullets and nobody wins, then we'll really need the Strikers plus thousands more. .

I'll repeat....Nobody hate's Wars more then the ones who have to fight them.

God save the DR, even from ALL ourselves.

Yourself being fairly new [ safe to say ] to the DT Forum, let me extend a Hearty Welcome.

Being an International forum mainly discussions pertain about current news events about the DR. We who choose to Post don't always and normally after an exchange end up agreeing, which is good.

Most People Post from Personal knowledge which is the reason why it sort of sounds like a Ping Pong game sometimes. It's safe to say in My Opinion most "Agree to Disagree".

Personally if I post to Someone directly I'll post TO WHOM, FROM WHOM or just throw it out there. I don't hide behind anyone. Why not do what I DO, I just....not answer but listen. By doing so I won't gain any cookies, but at least gain a little respect.

I like to think that's when I.....
"go get a Life" Play Father & Husband....
"move on" by not further Posting responses......
Try it,
I'm sure FredCDobbs would Agree.
