SANTO DOMINGO.- We don’t accept abortion period," said cardinal Nicolàs de Jesùs Lòpez Rodrìguez Friday morning regarding alleged pressure on lawmakers to change the controversial article 30 in a second reading of the constitutional reform, which defines life from conception to death. "I’m confident it won’t be modified."
This week a group of women representing the Socialist International political organization rebuked the article’s approval, arguing that it violates the mothers’ rights.
To which Lopez Rodrìguez responded: “Those coming from the International Socialist are part of the dark sectors and Governments which are into that. We don’t accept abortion period."
The senior prelate spoke to reporters Friday morning after officiating the first mass to inaugurate a parish in the Armed Forces Ministry.

Sounds like Torquemada the inquisior general at the time of the inquisition.
Statements like that just infuriates people more against the out of sync, and outdated catholic church.
The cardinal is just repeating outdated vatican policy, which like the refusal to allow priests to marry, just stimulates more flight of believers to the other, more tolerant churches.

Thankfully we have a catholic church that adopts all the millions of poor unwanted children. That's why the DR has 0 homeless limpiabotas. How compassionate the church is :-)

We don't accept abortion. And we don't care if some 9 year old gets raped by a relative and will probably die in childbirth for twins. After all, how much money could she have donated?
But we sure love those funny hats.

I do not know why the Cardinal needs to restate the position of his church ,,everyone knows it already but why does he seek to prevent legal abortion by those women who are not of his faith, do not go to his church and do not care what his views are .

When have you ever seen this man comforting any poor person or any victim of a natural disaster, such as flood or Hurricane?
He is a royal hypocrite and a welfare queen; no sexual innuendo intended but you can draw your own conclusion.

Any of these figures saying abortion should stay illegla should have their daughers raped by mental paitents until they are pregnant. Then lets see how many of them allow their daughters to give birth to children who are doomed before being born. Let people make their own choices with their own bodies. People make mistaked when they are young and should be able to correct them if they choose to just like the rest of the civilized world.

It is time to dethrone and remove the church's influence on Dominican society. There are 19.6 million people on the island (10 E6 in DR and 9.6 E6 in Haiti). We are growing at 1.9 % in DR and 2.8 % in Haiti every year. That is > 900,000 new people on the island every year!
We are running out of potable water, of room for garbage, of soil for wealth production (or raising clattle), and human violence will explode!

Bring in the Chinese system. You give birth without official approval, you go presa. And so does the Papi Champu that did it to you.
The Chinese set forth those rules when their population reached 1,000,000,000.

Excellent posts... let me add by only saying the hypocrisy of this charlatan. We support "human life", but we're against the human rights of women, minorities, migrants, etc.
What is a man doing telling women what to do? Women know what's best for them, and that's why it irks me to see this hypocrite and all the other politicos assuming they know best and imposing their morality and their views on women. Shame on them. I just wish some histotically marginalized group can rise up and impose on the freedom of these yahoos!!!

Those pedophiles won't like abortion because the little boys they prey upon won't need one after they tear their ass up.
I think the Church is preying on people stupidity. Anyway who can blame them? Hasn't they managed to sneak into our mind and culture, roman, barbarians pagan rituals and customs that have nothing to do with the real God.
They managed with brute force to convert a good chunk of mankind into sun worshippers while making the people believing that they are adoring God.
If you don't believe what I said, ask any catholic priest whether or not Jesus died on a cross or on a post. In fact, the romans never crucify their prisoners the pinned them on a post, which gives a more painful death. the cross is a pagan representation of the zodiacal solar calendar, and the fish theme that has always represented the christian faith is just a pagan symbol pulled from the solar calendar.

For all its crimes past and presents, the Catholic Church should be burnt and destroyed, and all the sons of God shoud worship Him truely and spiritually and not be forced to believe in childish, counterfeited and distorted stories edited and published by an organisation whose goal has always been to dominate the life of the people living on this planet like any other evil empire will do.

The Church is one of the reason why the Latin world has been kept under dictatorship and underdevelopment. In Haiti, it is more powerful than even the state. Until we, as free spirited people, don't make those pedophiles, that are preying on our kids, understand that they are artifacts of the past, we won't go anywhere, and we will be stuck with their backward vision of the Universe and God. Like the wise man says: "I don't know what God is, but I know what he isn't."
And those fellows, after highjacking the Church with Constantin the Great, who was the very first Pope, they inserted in its rituals all the pagan belief we've been bombarded for more than a thousand years.
I say, let's make those profiters and abusers stay in their corner and not meddle into politics, and if someone wants to keep worshipping the sun with them, that is his or her problem.

What a pity that the man who should upheld the ethics is so selective and behaves like Trujillo, .
Why doesn't he speak out against the child pregnancies in the country and the rapes and abuses of children? Why doesn't he speak up about the poverty that the born baby will suffer? Why doesn't he speak up of the people that die of hunger or lack of medical assistance? Why doesn't he speak up about the situation in the public hospitals like Dario Contreras where the sick and wounded are being treated in what I would call the most unhigienic place with the worse equipment? Why doesn't he speak out against the social injustice? Well maybe he doesn't know the country he is living in becuase he lives isolated in his palace, but then he should keep his mouth shut and stay in his own isolated world.
