This is not correct BASTA in any form..the Restoration was during the American civil war and the USA had no time for a diversion,Several years earlier , Santana had signed a pact with Spain for the return of their colonial rule ..he did this allegedly for protection against another war with Haiti. However , the generals listed above , opposed the pact and so declared war on Spain ...and to an extent were assisted by Haiti who did not want to see Spain here. in the next decade the USA senate refused to annex the DR .

The idea of Restoration of our independence is definitely based on Duarte's principles of having a Free Country, independent of all foreign powers. This was a fight between and "Dominicans" (citizens of Spain) and free "Dominicans" (from the Eastern part of the Island of Santo Domingo). The Dominicans from the Western part of the island didn't play an important part on this struggle.
The end-result of this fight, that was won because of the presence of Duarte in the Country, giving confidence to the People to defeat the Spaniards, was the establishment of a new identity, a national and own identity for the people of the Eastern part of the Island of Santo Domingo. That national identity is still off the books. The name that those patriots fought for was Quisqueya and only our National Anthem survived caudillos and tyrants until now. It is time for the People to claim our National Identity and the name of our country. Quisqueyans and Haitians are Dominicans by region (island).

I'm dead tired of people saying that Dominicans are racists. How in the world can they be racists when they even claim to be any other color even green except black? (Confused racists?) When all along they're tthe darkest of all in the Sapnish speaking Americas, wanna be indians.
