New York.- The New York City elevator operator accused of killing a cleaning woman inside a Lower Manhattan
office building has pleaded not guilty at his arraignment today.
Joseph Pabon was indicted on a murder charge last month and entered the not guilty plea Monday in state Supreme Court. About a dozen members of the victim's family watched his arraignment.
According to authorities, Pabon snatched Eridania Rodriguez on July 7 as she worked on an empty floor in the 26-story office building. They say he smothered her with tape, hid her body in the air conditioning shaft and then told his manager he was ill and went home. Police found her body four days later.
Rodriguez, 46, was born in the Dominican Republic but lived in Manhattan for decades. Pabon is from Staten Island.

If guilty, then accord appropriate punishment.
